Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for managed file transfer. A managed file transfer server may receive a request from a sender to send a file (bulk data) to a recipient and may determine a location server that is closest to the location of the recipient. A server-to-server transfer can be automatically initiated to move the file to the location server that is closest to the location of the recipient.

Claims (36)

1 . A managed file transfer method, comprising:

receiving, by an enterprise server through a first tenant location server, a request from a sender to send a file to a recipient, the first tenant location server operating at a first location within a private network, the enterprise server operating on a server machine outside of the private network and configured for providing a plurality of server functions including a managed file transfer web service and a managed file transfer service;

determining, by the enterprise server, a location of the recipient;

determining, by the enterprise server, a location server that is closest to the location of the recipient, wherein the location server that is closest to the location of the recipient represents a second tenant location server operating at a second location within the private network; and

automatically initiating, by the enterprise server, a server-to-server transfer to move the file from the first tenant location server to the second tenant location server by sending an instruction to the first tenant location server to send the file to the second tenant location server such that the file is directly transferred from the first tenant location server to the second tenant location server and the file is not exchanged between the enterprise server and the first tenant location server.

2 . The managed file transfer method according to claim 1 , wherein the file comprises bulk data.

3 . The managed file transfer method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

tracking, in a database, information relating to any download of the file, any transmission of the file, or any access of the file.

4 . The managed file transfer method according to claim 3 , wherein the information is retained in the database for a retention period and wherein the information automatically expires after the retention period.

5 . The method according to claim 3 , wherein the information expires immediately in response to the file being recalled by the sender.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

storing information relating to the server-to-server transfer in a database server, the information comprising metadata about the file.

7 . A system for managed file transfer, comprising:

an enterprise server having a processor, a non-transitory computer-readable medium, and instructions stored on the non-transitory computer-readable medium and translatable by the processor for:

receiving, through a first tenant location server, a request from a sender to send a file to a recipient, the first tenant location server operating at a first location within a private network, the enterprise server operating on a server machine outside of the private network and configured for providing a plurality of server functions including a managed file transfer web service and a managed file transfer service;

determining a location of the recipient;

determining a location server that is closest to the location of the recipient, wherein the location server that is closest to the location of the recipient represents a second tenant location server operating at a second location within the private network; and

automatically initiating a server-to-server transfer to move the file from the first tenant location server to the second tenant location server by sending an instruction to the first tenant location server to send the file to the second tenant location server such that the file is directly transferred from the first tenant location server to the second tenant location server and the file is not exchanged between the enterprise server and the first tenant location server.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the file comprises bulk data.

9 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

tracking, in a database, information relating to any download of the file, any transmission of the file, or any access of the file.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the information is retained in the database for a retention period and wherein the information automatically expires after the retention period.

11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the information expires immediately in response to the file being recalled by the sender.

12 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

storing information relating to the server-to-server transfer in a database server, the information comprising metadata about the file.

13 . A computer program product for managed file transfer, the computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions translatable by a processor of an enterprise server for:

receiving, through a first tenant location server, a request from a sender to send a file to a recipient, the first tenant location server operating at a first location within a private network, the enterprise server operating on a server machine outside of the private network and configured for providing a plurality of server functions including a managed file transfer web service and a managed file transfer service;

determining a location of the recipient;

determining a location server that is closest to the location of the recipient, wherein the location server that is closest to the location of the recipient represents a second tenant location server operating at a second location within the private network; and

automatically initiating a server-to-server transfer to move the file from the first tenant location server to the second tenant location server by sending an instruction to the first tenant location server to send the file to the second tenant location server such that the file is directly transferred from the first tenant location server to the second tenant location server and the file is not exchanged between the enterprise server and the first tenant location server.

14 . The computer program product of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

tracking, in a database, information relating to any download of the file, any transmission of the file, or any access of the file.

15 . The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the information is retained in the database for a retention period and wherein the information automatically expires after the retention period.

16 . The computer program product of claim 14 , wherein the information expires immediately in response to the file being recalled by the sender.

17 . The computer program product of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further translatable by the processor for:

storing information relating to the server-to-server transfer in a database server, the information comprising metadata about the file.
