Multi-cell signals in OFDM wireless networks
Wireless devices may receive channel state information (CSI) measurement resources for a plurality of cells, including cells of a first transmission point and cells of a second transmission point. The wireless device may measure CSI for each cell, and may quantize the measured CSI jointly across the cells. The wireless device may send the jointly quantized CSI to a base station, and the jointly quantized CSI may be used in communications via the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
1. A method comprising:
transmitting, by a wireless device, channel state information (CSI) that is determined based on:
a first reference signal associated with a first transmission point of a base station; and
a second reference signal associated with a second transmission point;
receiving, via the first transmission point, downlink control information indicating at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and
receiving signals overlapping in time via the first transmission point and via the second transmission point, wherein the signals correspond to the at least one packet.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first reference signal comprises at least one of:
wideband reference signals; or
sub-band reference signals.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator determined for the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein a physical uplink control channel format indicates whether at least one of the following measurements is comprised in the CSI:
a channel quality indicator (CQI);
a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);
a precoding type indicator (PTI); or
a rank indicator (RI).
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base station comprises a plurality of cells.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base station comprises the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
a coordinated multi-point (COMP) transmission point;
a transmission point configured to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the wireless device; or
a subset of a CoMP cooperating set.
8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, via the first transmission point, one or more messages indicating the first reference signal and the second reference signal.
9. A method comprising:
receiving and decoding, by a base station, channel state information (CSI) that is determined based on:
a first reference signal associated with a first transmission point of the base station; and
a second reference signal associated with a second transmission point;
transmitting, to a wireless device and via the first transmission point, downlink control information indicating at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and
transmitting, via the first transmission point to the wireless device, first signals corresponding to the at least one packet, wherein second signals corresponding to the at least one packet are transmitted via the second transmission point.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first reference signal associated with the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
one or more sub-band reference signals or wideband reference signals.
11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator determined for the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
12. The method of claim 9 , wherein a physical uplink control channel format indicates whether at least one of the following measurements is comprised in the CSI:
a channel quality indicator (CQI);
a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);
a precoding type indicator (PTI); or
a rank indicator (RI).
13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the base station comprises a plurality of cells.
14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the base station comprises the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
a coordinated multi-point (COMP) transmission point;
a transmission point configured to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the wireless device; or
a subset of a CoMP cooperating set.
16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising transmitting, to the wireless device and via the first transmission point, one or more messages indicating the first reference signal and the second reference signal.
17. A wireless device comprising:
one or more processors; and
memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:
transmit channel state information (CSI) that is determined based on:
a first reference signal associated with a first transmission point of a base station; and
a second reference signal associated with a second transmission point;
receive, via the first transmission point, downlink control information indicating at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and
receive signals overlapping in time via the first transmission point and via the second transmission point, wherein the signals correspond to the at least one packet.
18. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein the first reference signal associated with the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
wideband reference signals; or
sub-band reference signals.
19. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator determined for the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
20. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein a physical uplink control channel format indicates whether at least one of the following measurements is comprised in the CSI:
a channel quality indicator (CQI);
a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);
a precoding type indicator (PTI); or
a rank indicator (RI).
21. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein the base station comprises a plurality of cells.
22. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein the base station comprises the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
23. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
a coordinated multi-point (COMP) transmission point;
a transmission point configured to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the wireless device; or
a subset of a CoMP cooperating set.
24. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to receive, via the first transmission point, one or more messages indicating the first reference signal and the second reference signal.
25. A base station comprising:
one or more processors; and
memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to:
receive and decode channel state information (CSI) that is determined based on:
a first reference signal associated with a first transmission point of the base station; and
a second reference signal associated with a second transmission point;
transmit, to a wireless device and via the first transmission point, downlink control information indicating at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and
transmit, via the first transmission point to the wireless device, first signals corresponding to the at least one packet, wherein second signals corresponding to the at least one packet are transmitted via the second transmission point.
26. The base station of claim 25 , wherein the first reference signal associated with the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
one or more sub-band reference signals or wideband reference signals.
27. The base station of claim 25 , wherein the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator determined for the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
28. The base station of claim 25 , wherein a physical uplink control channel format indicates whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:
a channel quality indicator (CQI);
a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);
a precoding type indicator (PTI); or
a rank indicator (RI).
29. The base station of claim 25 , wherein the base station comprises a plurality of cells.
30. The base station of claim 25 , wherein the base station comprises the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
31. The base station of claim 25 , wherein the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
a coordinated multi-point (COMP) transmission point;
a transmission point configured to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the wireless device; or
a subset of a CoMP cooperating set.
32. The base station of claim 25 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the base station to transmit, to the wireless device and via the first transmission point, one or more messages indicating the first reference signal and the second reference signal.
33. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, configure a wireless device to:
transmit channel state information (CSI) that is determined based on:
a first reference signal associated with a first transmission point of a base station; and
a second reference signal associated with a second transmission point;
receive, via the first transmission point, downlink control information indicating at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and
receive signals overlapping in time via the first transmission point and via the second transmission point, wherein the signals correspond to the at least one packet.
34. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 33 , wherein the first reference signal associated with the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
wideband reference signals; or
sub-band reference signals.
35. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 33 , wherein the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator determined for the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
36. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 33 , wherein a physical uplink control channel format indicates whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:
a channel quality indicator (CQI);
a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);
a precoding type indicator (PTI); or
a rank indicator (RI).
37. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 33 , wherein the base station comprises a plurality of cells.
38. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 33 , wherein the base station comprises the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
39. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 33 , wherein the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
a coordinated multi-point (COMP) transmission point;
a transmission point configured to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the wireless device; or
a subset of a COMP cooperating set.
40. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 33 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the wireless device to receive, via the first transmission point, one or more messages indicating the first reference signal and the second reference signal.
41. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, configure a base station to:
receive and decode channel state information (CSI) that is determined based on:
a first reference signal associated with a first transmission point of the base station; and
a second reference signal associated with a second transmission point;
transmit, to a wireless device and via the first transmission point, downlink control information indicating at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and
transmit, via the first transmission point to the wireless device, first signals corresponding to the at least one packet, wherein second signals corresponding to the at least one packet are transmitted via the second transmission point.
42. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the first reference signal associated with the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
one or more sub-band reference signals or wideband reference signals.
43. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator determined for the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
44. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 41 , wherein a physical uplink control channel format indicates whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:
a channel quality indicator (CQI);
a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);
a precoding type indicator (PTI); or
a rank indicator (RI).
45. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the base station comprises a plurality of cells.
46. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the base station comprises the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
47. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
a coordinated multi-point (COMP) transmission point;
a transmission point configured to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the wireless device; or
a subset of a CoMP cooperating set.
48. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, configure the base station to transmit, to the wireless device and via the first transmission point, one or more messages indicating the first reference signal and the second reference signal.
49. A system comprising:
a wireless device; and
a base station;
wherein the wireless device is configured to:
transmit, to the base station, channel state information (CSI) that is determined based on:
a first reference signal associated with a first transmission point of a base station; and
a second reference signal associated with a second transmission point; and
wherein the base station is configured to:
transmit, to the wireless device and via the first transmission point, downlink control information indicating at least one resource assignment for at least one packet; and
transmit, via the first transmission point to the wireless device, first signals corresponding to the at least one packet, wherein second signals corresponding to the at least one packet are transmitted via the second transmission point.
50. The system of claim 49 , wherein the first reference signal associated with the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
one or more sub-band reference signals or wideband reference signals.
51. The system of claim 49 , wherein the CSI comprises a precoding matrix indicator determined for the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
52. The system of claim 49 , wherein a physical uplink control channel format indicates whether at least one of the following measurements are comprised in the CSI:
a channel quality indicator (CQI);
a precoding matrix indicator (PMI);
a precoding type indicator (PTI); or
a rank indicator (RI).
53. The system of claim 49 , wherein the base station comprises a plurality of cells.
54. The system of claim 49 , wherein the base station comprises the first transmission point and the second transmission point.
55. The system of claim 49 , wherein the first transmission point comprises at least one of:
a coordinated multi-point (COMP) transmission point;
a transmission point configured to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to the wireless device; or
a subset of a COMP cooperating set.
56. The system of claim 49 , wherein the base station is further configured to transmit, to the wireless device and via the first transmission point, one or more messages indicating the first reference signal and the second reference signal.
