Abstract

A display for emitting display light comprising: (a) a light source for emitting a source light; and (b) a filter positioned in the path of said source light, said filter comprising at least short, medium and long filters, wherein said short filter is configured to transmit short-primary light from said source light, said short-primary light comprising a violet portion having wavelengths from 400 to 440 nm and at least a second portion having wavelengths above 440 nm such that said short-primary light is perceptually blue, said short-primary light having a short-primary SPD having a short-primary power between 380-780 nm and a blue power between 440-500 nm, wherein said blue power is less than 5% of said short-primary power.

Claims (27)

1 . A display having a low-blue display emission, said display comprising:

a plurality of pixels, each of said plurality of pixels comprising a plurality of subpixels, each of said plurality of subpixels comprising at least

a short blue subpixel for emitting short blue light having a peak in a range of 400 and 440 nm;

a long blue subpixel for emitting said long blue light having a peak in a range of 500 and 520 nm;

a green subpixel for emitting green light;

a red subpixel for emitting red light; and

wherein a combination of said short blue light and said long blue light is perceptively blue light.

2 . The display of claim 1 , wherein said short blue light has a peak in a range of 415 and 430 nm.

3 . The display of claim 2 , further comprising:

a backlight; and

a plurality of filters overlaying said backlight, said plurality of filters corresponding to said plurality of subpixels, said plurality of filters comprises at least

a short blue filter for emitting said short blue light;

a long blue filter for emitting said long blue light;

a green primary filter for emitting said green light; and

a red primary filter for emitting said red light.

4 . The display of claim 3 , wherein said short and long blue filters comprise violet and cyan filters, respectively.

5 . The display of claim 3 , wherein said green primary filter has a peak at 527 nm.

6 . The display of claim 3 , wherein said red primary filter has a single peak at 638 nm.

7 . The display of claim 2 , wherein each of said plurality of subpixels comprises at least

a short blue emitter for emitting said short blue light;

a long blue emitter for emitting said long blue light;

a green primary emitter for emitting said green light; and

a red primary emitter for emitting said red light.

8 . The display of claim 7 , wherein said short blue emitter and said long blue emitter comprise a violet emitter and a cyan emitter, respectively.

9 . The display of claim 7 , wherein said green primary emitter has a peak at 527 nm.

10 . The display of claim 7 , wherein said red primary emitter has a single peak at 638 nm.

11 . The display of claim 1 , wherein said red primary emitter has a single peak at 638 nm.
