Abstract

A system for supplying power to at least one power distribution and data hub using a portable battery pack including a battery enclosed by a wearable and replaceable pouch or skin is disclosed, wherein the pouch or skin can be provided in different colors and/or patterns. Further, the pouch or skin can be MOLLE-compatible. The battery comprises a battery element housed between a battery cover and a back plate, wherein the battery element, battery cover, and back plate have a slight curvature or contour. Further, the battery comprises flexible leads.

Claims (39)

1. A system for supplying power comprising:

a battery pack including one or more batteries; and

at least one power consuming device;

wherein the one or more batteries include:

a battery cover; and

one or more omnidirectional leads including a spring and a wiring portion, wherein the spring is operable to extend through the battery cover;

wherein a Y-splitter with a first connector and a second connector is attached to the one or more omnidirectional leads, wherein the first connector of the Y-splitter is configured to supply power from the one or more batteries to the at least one power consuming device, wherein the second connector of the Y-splitter is configured to charge the one or more batteries simultaneously with the first connector of the Y-splitter supplying power to the at least one power consuming device;

wherein the one or more batteries supply power to the at least one power consuming device; and

wherein the at least one power consuming device includes a power distribution and data hub operable to transfer data between at least one peripheral device and the one or more batteries.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more batteries are enclosed in a receptacle, wherein the receptacle includes one or more openings through which the one or more omnidirectional leads from the one or more batteries can be accessed.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the power distribution and data hub is configured to prioritize power output to the at least one peripheral device.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the power distribution and data hub is configured to stop powering the at least one peripheral device when available power in the one or more batteries is lower than a designated threshold.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the battery pack is operable to affix to a vest using at least one zipper.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the power distribution and data hub includes at least one smart cable, wherein the at least one smart cable is configured to connect to at least one peripheral device, wherein the at least one smart cable is configured to store peripheral device data, and wherein the peripheral device data includes a unique identifier, at least one power requirement, a type of device, and/or a priority ranking.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the battery pack is Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment (MOLLE)-compatible.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one power consuming device includes a radio, a rangefinder, a laser designator, a Global Positioning System (GPS) device, an electronic jamming system, a mine detector, a metal detector, a camera, a thermal imaging device, a short wave infrared device, a satellite phone, an antenna, a lighting system, an environmental sensor, an amplifier, and/or a receiver.

9. A system for supplying power comprising:

a battery pack including one or more batteries; and

wherein the one or more batteries include:

a battery cover;

a battery back plate attached to the battery cover; and

one or more leads including a wiring portion and a spring, wherein the battery cover includes an opening for the spring;

wherein a Y-splitter with a first connector and a second connector is attached to the one or more leads, wherein the first connector of the Y-splitter is configured to supply power from the one or more batteries to at least one power consuming device, wherein the second connector of the Y-splitter is configured to charge the one or more batteries simultaneously with the first connector of the Y-splitter supplying the power to the at least one power consuming device; and

wherein the at least one power consuming device includes a power distribution and data hub operable to transfer data between at least one peripheral device and the one or more batteries.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more batteries are operable to be enclosed in a wearable article, and wherein the wearable article includes one or more openings through which the one or more leads from the one or more batteries can be accessed.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more batteries are rechargeable.

12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the power distribution and data hub is configured to prioritize power output to the at least one peripheral device.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the wiring portion and spring are held securely on the battery cover via a clamping mechanism.

14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more leads further include a heat shrink tubing.

15. A system for supplying power comprising:

a battery pack including one or more batteries; and

wherein the one or more batteries include:

a battery cover including one or more channels to accommodate wires of one or more leads and a spring; and

wherein the spring goes through the battery cover;

wherein at least one power consuming device includes a power distribution and data hub operable to transfer data between at least one peripheral device and the one or more batteries;

wherein the power distribution and data hub is configured to prioritize power output to the at least one peripheral device and at least one second peripheral device based on available power in the one or more batteries; and

wherein the one or more batteries supply power.

16. The system of claim 15 , further comprising a pouch, wherein the pouch further includes a pouch attachment ladder system (PALS) operable to attach the pouch to a load bearing platform.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the one or more leads include two or more leads, wherein at least one of the two or more leads is operable to charge at least one of the one or more batteries and at least one different lead of the two or more leads is operable to simultaneously power at least one power consuming device.
