Abstract

Various aspects of a prediction market ecosystem are described for punters and market makers to speculate on occurrence and non-occurrence of future events by placing bets on operators that take bets within their jurisdictions and can buy other punters bets that are placed with other operators through an exchange server that matches and executes trade orders that also allows operators to participate on the exchange to manage their risks and records inter-operator transactions generated as the result of executing the trade orders.

Claims (36)

1 . A multi-jurisdictional system for offering exchange tradeable bets (ETBs) across a plurality of jurisdictions, each jurisdiction mutually exclusive to each other for interacting with punters located within each jurisdiction, respectively, the system comprising:

a plurality of sportsbook operators located in the plurality of jurisdictions, respectively, each configured to accept ETBs from respective punters located only within each jurisdiction, respectively, to receive buy orders and sell orders from the punters to buy and sell at least some of the ETBs and to send the buy orders and the sell orders to a central exchange server for execution;

the exchange server, coupled to the plurality of sportsbook operators, each located in a respective jurisdiction and each configured to accept ETBs only from punters located within each jurisdiction, respectively, the exchange server configured to receive the buy orders and the sell orders from the plurality of sportsbook operators, to construct a plurality of tables, each table comprising a hierarchy of buy orders and sell orders associated with a particular event, respectively, each of the buy orders comprising a bid price and each of the sell orders comprising an ask price, each of the buy orders arranged in order of a highest bid price to a lowest bid price and each of the sell orders arranged in order of a lowest ask price to a highest ask price, to dynamically maintain the plurality of tables as new buy and sell orders are received, to execute the buy orders and the sell orders when a first lowest ask price in any of the plurality of tables matches a first highest bid price in any of the plurality of tables, respectively, and to send notifications of executed orders to at least some of the plurality of sportsbook operators for forwarding to punters associated with each executed order, respectively.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the exchange server is further configured to disseminate attributes of the ETBs to the plurality of sportsbook operators prior to dissemination to the punters, and each of the plurality of sportsbook operators is configured to:

determine that a respective book of each of the plurality of sportsbook operators is not balanced; and

in response to determining that a respective book of each of the plurality of sportsbook operators is not balanced, optionally modify a first attribute of one or more of the ETBs prior to dissemination to the punters in anticipation of achieving a respective balanced book.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the first attribute comprises a price of each of the ETBs.

4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the first attribute comprises odds associated with the ETBs, respectively.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the sell orders each comprise an indication of a particular ETB and an ask price, wherein the buy orders each comprise an indication of a particular ETB and a bid price.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the exchange server is further configured to maintain a plurality of inter-operator transactions, each associated with a particular sportsbook operator, as the buy orders and the sell orders are executed.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the ETBs are each associated with a particular future event, respectively, and the exchange server is configured to execute the buy orders and the sell orders by:

matching a highest bid price of each of the buy orders associated with each particular event, respectively, with a lowest ask price of each of the sell orders associated with the same particular future event, respectively.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the cloud-based server is configured to:

disseminate the plurality of tables to the punters of each of the plurality of sportsbook operators in each jurisdiction, respectively.

9 . A method for offering exchange tradeable bets (ETBs) across a plurality of jurisdictions, each jurisdiction mutually exclusive to each other for interacting with punters located within each jurisdiction, respectively, the method comprising:

accepting, by a plurality of sportsbook operators located in the plurality of jurisdictions, respectively, ETBs from respective punters located only within each jurisdiction, respectively;

receiving, by the plurality of sportsbook operators, buy orders and sell orders from the punters to buy and sell at least some of the ETBs;

sending, by a plurality of sportsbook operators, the buy orders and the sell orders to a central exchange server for execution;

receiving, by the exchange server, the buy orders and the sell orders from the plurality of sportsbook operators;

constructing a plurality of tables, each table comprising a hierarchy of buy orders and sell orders associated with a particular event, respectively, each of the buy orders comprising a bid price and each of the sell orders comprising an ask price, each of the buy orders arranged in order of a highest bid price to a lowest bid price and each of the sell orders arranged in order of a lowest ask price to a highest ask price, to dynamically maintain the plurality of tables as new buy and sell orders are received;

dynamically maintaining the plurality of tables as new buy and sell orders are received;

executing, by the exchange server, the buy orders and the sell orders when a first lowest ask price in any of the plurality of tables matches a first highest bid price in any of the plurality of tables, respectively; and

sending, by the exchange server, notifications of executed orders to at least some of the plurality of sportsbook operators for forwarding to punters associated with each executed order, respectively.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

disseminating attributes of ETBs to the plurality of sportsbook operators by the exchange server prior to dissemination of the ETBs to the punters;

determining, by at least some of the plurality of sportsbook operators, that a respective book of each of the plurality of operators is not balanced; and

in response to determining that a respective book of at least some of the plurality of sportsbook operators is not balanced, optionally modify a first attribute of one or more of the ETBs prior to dissemination to the punters in anticipation of achieving a respective balanced book.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the first attribute comprises a price of each of the ETBs.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the first attribute comprises odds associated with the ETBs, respectively.

13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the sell orders each comprise an indication of a particular ETB and an ask price, wherein the buy orders each comprise an indication of a particular ETB and a bid price.

14 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

maintaining, by the exchange server, a plurality of inter-operator transactions, each associated with a particular sportsbook operator, as the buy orders and the sell orders are executed.

15 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the ETBs are each associated with a particular future event, respectively, and executing the buy orders and the sell orders comprises:

matching a highest bid price of each of the buy orders associated with each particular event, respectively, with a lowest ask price of each of the sell orders associated with the same particular event, respectively.

16 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

disseminating the plurality of tables to the punters of each of the plurality of sportsbook operators in each jurisdiction, respectively.
