Abstract

An organic electroluminescence element comprising: an anode layer, a cathode layer, and an organic luminescence layer therebetween, the organic luminescence layer having a carbazole derivative with a glass-transition temperature of 110° C. or higher, and a phosphorescent dopant. This structure makes it possible to provide an organic electroluminescence element which can make use of the triplet exciton state of the carbazole derivative even at room temperature and which has a practical life and superior heat-resistance.

Claims (34)

1. An organic host material for an organic electroluminescence element, the organic host material being at least one of the carbazole derivatives

or a compound from the compounds of the following general formula (1) to (4):

wherein

Ar 1 is a substituted phenyl, biphenyl, terphenyl, quaterphenyl or naphthyl group, or a substituted or non-substituted carbazolylphenyl group, provided Ar 1 contains a carbazole group;

and

m and n is 0 or 1;

at least one of Ar 1 contains a carbazole group; and m and n is 0 or 1;

wherein R 1 to R 8 are each independently a hydrogen or alkyl group; X 1 and X 2 are each independently an alkyl, or alkyl-substituted or non-substituted phenyl or biphenyl group;

Y is phenylene or biphenylene; and

p is 2 or 3;

wherein

 is each independently

a carbazolyl group,

R 9 is an alkyl-substituted or non-substituted phenyl, biphenyl, terphenyl, naphthyl, carbazolyl group or

at least one of R 9 ,

contains a carbazolyl group; and

wherein Z is a trivalent nitrogen atom or benzenetriyl group; and

Ar 12 to Ar 14 are each independently a carbazolyl, carbazolylphenyl, carbazolylbiphenyl, carbazolylnaphthyl group or

provided that all Ar 12 to Ar 14 are not the same group.

2. The organic host material according to claim 1 ,

wherein the carbazole derivative has at least two carbazole skeletons.

3. The organic host material according to claim 1 ,

wherein the triplet energy of the carbazole derivative is at least 21,000 cm −1 .

4. The organic host material according to claim 1 ,

wherein the carbazole derivative has a cyclic structure, the triplet energy of the cyclic structure being at least 21,000 cm −1 , and the cyclic structure contains an aromatic ring, a hetero ring, or a combination thereof.

5. An organic luminescence layer for an organic electroluminescence element, comprising the organic host material according to claim 1 and a phosphorescent dopant.

6. The organic luminescence layer according to claim 5 ,

wherein a relationship of E1>E2 is satisfied in which E1 represents the triplet energy of the carbazole derivative and E2 represents the triplet energy of the phosphorescent dopant.

7. The organic luminescence layer according to claim 5 ,

wherein the phosphorescent dopant is a metal complex comprising at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Ir, Ru, Pd, Pt, Os and Re.

8. The organic luminescence layer according to claim 7 ,

wherein at least one ligand of the metal complex has at least one skeleton selected from the group consisting of phenylpyridine, bipyridyl and phenanthroline skeletons.

9. The organic luminescence layer according to claim 5 ,

wherein the phosphorescent dopant is present in an amount of 0.1 to 30 parts by weight per 100 parts of the carbazole derivative.
