Abstract

Disclosed are transgenic plants, seeds, and progeny from such plants comprising novel nucleic acid sequences encoding both CryET33 and CryET34 crystal proteins. The novel nucleic acid sequences comprise SEQ ID NO:11. CryET33 and CryET34 crystal proteins comprise SEQ ID NO:3 and SEQ ID NO:4 and exhibit insecticidal activity against coleopteran insects including red flour beetle larvae ( Tribolium castaneum ) and Japanese beetle larvae ( Popillia japonica ).

Claims (6)

1. A transgenic plant having incorporated into its genome a transgene that encodes a CryET33 and CryET34 crystal protein or peptide comprising SEQ ID NO:3 and SEQ ID NO:4.

2. The transgenic plant of claim 1 , wherein said transgene comprises a cryET33 and a cryET34 transgene of SEQ ID NO:11.

3. A progeny of the plant of claim 1 , wherein the progeny comprises said transgene.

4. A seed from the plant of claim 1 , wherein the seed comprises said transgene.

5. The transgenic plant of claim 1 , wherein said plant is a corn, wheat, turf, grass, vegetable, fruit tree, or ornamental plant.

6. A transgenic plant having incorporated into its genome a transgene that encodes a protein or peptide that exhibits insecticidal activity against the Japanese beetle ( Popillia japonica ) and the red flour beetle ( Tribolium castaneum ), wherein the transgene comprises SEQ ID NO:11.
