Abstract

A duct member is disposed around outer peripheries of an engine and an engine-driven generator to define a continuous cooling-air passage between the duct member and the outer peripheries. A cooling fan is disposed in the cooling-air passage to generate a flow of cooling air from one end of the cooling-air passage to the other end during operation of the engine. An intake box is connected to one end of the cooling-air passage and has an air-intake port. A muffler box is connected to the other end of the cooling-air passage, has an air-discharge port, and accommodates an exhaust muffler of the engine. A sound-insulating housing is connected between the intake box and the muffler box to surround the duct member in order to insulate sound emitted from the duct member.

Claims (19)

1. An engine-driven work machine connected to and driven by an engine, comprising:

a duct member disposed around outer peripheries of the engine and the work machine to define a continuous cooling-air passage between the duct member and the outer peripheries;

a cooling fan disposed in the cooling-air passage and which generates a flow of cooling air from one end of the cooling-air passage to the other end during operation of the engine;

an intake box connected to one end of the cooling-air passage and having an air-intake port;

a muffler box connected to the other end of the cooling-air passage, having an air-discharge port, and accommodating an exhaust muffler of the engine; and

a sound-insulating housing connected between the intake box and the muffler box to surround the duct member in order to insulate sound emitted from the duct member,

wherein the duct member is provided with a through-bore permitting leakage of the cooling air from the cooling-air passage toward the sound-insulating housing, and a bottom surface of the sound-insulating housing is provided with a ventilation bore defined therein for discharging the air leaked from the through-bore to the outside.

2. The work machine according to claim 1 , wherein an intake pipe of the engine is disposed in the through-bore, and a carburetor disposed within the sound-insulating housing and outside the duct member is connected to the intake pipe.

3. The work machine according to claim 2 , wherein an air cleaner connected to an intake passage inlet of the carburetor is disposed within the sound-insulating housing and outside the duct member, and an air inlet of the air cleaner opens into the intake box.

4. The work machine according to claim 1 , wherein a ceiling wall of the sound-insulating housing is defined by a fuel tank.

5. An engine-driven work machine connected to and driven by an engine, comprising:

a duct member disposed around outer peripheries of the engine and the work machine to define a continuous cooling-air passage between the duct member and the outer peripheries;

a cooling fan disposed in the cooling-air passage and which generates a flow of cooling air from one end of the cooling-air passage to the other end during operation of the engine;

an intake box connected to one end of the cooling-air passage and having an air-intake port;

a muffler box connected to the other end of the cooling-air passage, having an air-discharge port, and accommodating an exhaust muffler of the engine; and

a sound-insulating housing connected between the intake box and the muffler box to surround the duct member in order to insulate sound emitted from the duct member,

wherein an intake pipe of the engine is disposed in the through-bore, and a carburetor disposed within the sound-insulating housing and outside the duct member is connected to the intake pipe.

6. The work machine according to claim 5 , wherein a ceiling wall of the sound-insulating housing is defined by a fuel tank.

7. The work machine according to claim 5 , wherein an air cleaner connected to an intake passage inlet of the carburetor is disposed within the sound-insulating housing and outside the duct member, and an air inlet of the air cleaner opens into the intake box.
