Abstract

A safe having a support assembly disposed in the interior of the safe. The door of the safe is coupled to the support assembly and is shiftable between a closed position wherein the door is received in an opening of the safe and an open position wherein the door is removed from the opening in the safe and disposed in the interior of the safe.

Claims (51)

1. A safe comprising:

a housing defining an access opening and an interior space;

a door shiftable between a closed position wherein the door is at least partially received in the opening and blocks access to the interior space through the opening, and an open position wherein the door is at least partially received in the interior space, thereby permitting access to the interior space through the opening;

a normally-upright elongated support disposed in the interior space and shiftably coupled to the housing, wherein said door and said support are coupled to one another in a manner such that rotation of one of said door or support requires corresponding rotation of the other of said door or support;

at least one radially extending support arm disposed in the interior space and coupled to the upright support; and

a locking mechanism for locking the door in a position wherein the door blocks access to the interior space through the access opening.

2. The safe according to claim 1 ,

said door being shiftable relative to the elongated support.

3. The safe according to claim 1 ,

further including a carrousel assembly received in the interior space and rotatably coupled to the housing.

4. The safe according to claim 3 ,

said carrousel assembly including the normally-upright elongated support, a base, and a lateral support member.

5. The safe according to claim 4 ,

wherein said door is coupled to said carrousel assembly in a manner such that rotation of one of said door or carrousel assembly requires corresponding rotation of the other of said door or carrousel assembly.

6. The safe according to claim 3 ,

said carrousel assembly operable to support guns for storage in the safe.

7. The safe according to claim 1 ,

wherein said interior space is defined between a normally-upper end of the housing and a normally-lower end of the housing,

wherein said support extends from the normally-upper end of the housing to the normally-lower end of the housing,

wherein said support is rotatably coupled to both the normally-upper end of the housing and the normally-lower end of the housing.

8. A safe comprising:

a housing defining an access opening and an interior space;

a door shiftable between a closed position wherein the door is at least partially received in the opening, and an open position wherein the door is at least partially received in the interior space;

a normally-upright elongated support disposed in the interior space and shiftably coupled to the housing; and

a door retraction assembly for shifting the door between the closed position and the open position,

said door retraction assembly coupling the door to the normally-upright elongated support in a manner such that rotation of one of said door or support requires corresponding rotation of the other of said door or support,

said door retraction assembly being capable of retaining the door in at least one intermediate position between the closed position and the open position.

9. The safe according to claim 8 ,

further including a carrousel assembly received in the interior space and rotatably coupled to the housing.

10. The safe according to claim 9 ,

said carrousel assembly being configured to support guns for storage in the safe.

11. The safe according to claim 8 ,

further including a locking mechanism for locking the door in a position wherein the door blocks access to the interior space though the access opening.

12. The safe according to claim 8 ,

said door retraction assembly including a torque element and a retraction member.

13. The safe according to claim 12 ,

said torque element and retraction member being rotatably coupled to the door.

14. A safe comprising:

a housing defining an access opening and an interior space;

a door shiftable between a closed position wherein the door is at least partially received in the opening, and an open position wherein the door is at least partially received in the interior space;

a normally-upright elongated support disposed in the interior space and shiftably coupled to the housing;

a door retraction assembly for shifting the door between the closed position and the open position,

said door retraction assembly coupling the door to the normally-upright elongated support,

said door retraction assembly being capable of retaining the door in at least one intermediate position between the closed position and the open position,

said door retraction assembly including a torque element and a retraction member,

said torque element and retraction member being rotatably coupled to the door, and

said retraction member being a generally cylindrical rod presenting a male threaded portion.

15. The safe according to claim 14 ,

said door retraction assembly further including a collar having a female threaded opening for receipt of the male threaded portion of said retraction member.

16. The safe according to claim 15 ,

wherein upon rotation of said torque element, said retraction member is shifted relative to said collar.
