Claims (21)

1. A storage device for supporting a load on a ground, comprising:

a cart having a front, a back and two sides and at least one pair of wheels on each side of said cart said wheels riding directly on the ground and a guide member not in contact with said wheels on said cart, said guide member attached longitudinally to said cart between said sides of said cart and which is substantially parallel to said ground;

a guide assembly securable to the ground and cooperating with the guide member of the cart to permit movement of the cart between an extended and a refracted position, wherein the guide assembly includes a base, locking flanges, guide brackets and guide bearings within the sides of the cart; and,

a control arm assembly including a control axle, a hinge assembly and a control handle, said control assembly attached to the cart.

2. The invention of claim 1 wherein the control arm assembly is within the sides of the cart.

3. The invention of claim 1 wherein the control handle includes a grip.

4. The invention of claim 1 wherein the locking flanges are integral with the base.

5. The invention of claim 1 wherein the ground is a warehouse floor and the guide assembly is secured to said warehouse floor.

6. The invention of claim 1 wherein the control axle includes at least one locking pin.

7. A storage cart having a front, back and two sides for supporting a load on a ground, said cart moveable between a forward position and a rearward position, comprising:

a cart having wheel supports and at least one pair of vertically oriented wheels on each side of said cart to permit said movement of said cart said wheels riding directly on said ground, and a guide rail independent of said wheels of said cart and positioned between said vertical wheels on each side of said cart;

a guide assembly securable to said ground, the guide assembly including a guide bracket and a guide bearing that cooperates with said guide rail;

a control arm assembly substantially within the sides of said cart, wherein the control arm assembly includes a control axle and locking pins; and,

a locking flange that cooperates with said control arm assembly to prevent undesired movement of said cart.

8. The invention of claim 7 wherein said locking pins cooperate with said locking flange.

9. The invention of claim 7 wherein said vertically oriented wheels of said cart include four wheel assemblies, each wheel assembly having two pairs of wheels, one pair on each side of a support stringer of said cart.

10. The invention of claim 7 wherein said vertically oriented wheels are casters.

11. A storage cart for moveably storing a load, said cart capable of movement along a warehouse floor between a rearward and a forward position, said cart having a generally horizontal, non-rotary guide rail, comprising:

means for rollably supporting substantially all of said load on said cart directly on said warehouse floor and for permitting movement between the forward and rearward position;

a guide member for cooperating with said generally horizontal guide rail and preventing undesired lateral movement of said cart, said guide member including a base, locking flange and guide wheels that cooperate directly with said guide rail of said cart, and said guide member not in contact with said means for rollably supporting said cart; and,

a control arm assembly for enabling the selective movement of said cart and locking said cart against undesired movement, said control arm assembly being substantially within the width of said cart.
