Abstract

A system, apparatus, method and article to manage channel prediction for a wireless communication system are described. The apparatus may include a media access control processor to perform channel prediction, and a transceiver to communicate information using the channel prediction. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Claims (31)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a media access control processor to predict channel state information for a communications channel using measured channel state information and a transmitter to transmit a beamforming matrix generated using said predicted channel state information, said measured channel state information comprising channel responses for previously communicated frames of information and said channel responses indexed by frame numbers of said previously communicated frames of information.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said media access control processor is to generate said beamforming matrix using said predicted channel state information.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said media access control processor is to select a modulation coding scheme for said channel using said predicted channel state information.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said predicted channel state information is used to perform minimum mean square error (MMSE) spatial decoupling.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said communications channel is a closed loop multiple-input-multiple-output communications channel.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a filter having multiple filter taps, with each filter tap to receive as input a corresponding channel response for one of said previously communicated frames.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein said filter comprises a finite impulse response filter.

8. A system, comprising:

a media access control processor to predict channel state information for a communications channel using measured channel state information and to transmit a beamforming matrix generated using said predicted channel state information, said measured channel state information comprising channel responses for previously communicated frames of information and said channel responses indexed by frame numbers of said previously communicated frames of information; and

a transceiver array having multiple transmitters and multiple antennas, said transceiver array to connect to said media access control processor.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein said media access control processor is to generate said beamforming matrix using said predicted channel state information.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein said communications channel is a closed loop multiple-input-multiple-output communications channel.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein said transceiver array is to transmit information over said communications channel using said predicted channel state information.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein said transceiver array is to transmit a packet having orthogonal frequency division multiplexing symbols over said communications channel using said predicted channel state information.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein said transceiver array is to transmit said predicted channel state information.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein said transceiver array is to transmit said beamforming matrix generated using said predicted channel state information.

15. A method, comprising:

selecting a time interval for channel prediction;

predicting channel state information for a communications channel using said time interval and measured channel state information; and

transmitting a beamforming matrix generated using said predicted channel state information, said measured channel state information comprising channel responses for previously communicated frames of information and said channel responses indexed by frame numbers of said previously communicated frames.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising transmitting information over said communications channel using said predicted channel state information.

17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising transmitting said predicted channel state information.

18. The method of claim 15 , further comprising generating said beamforming matrix using said predicted channel state information.

19. An article comprising a machine-readable storage medium containing instructions that, executed by a processor, enable a system to select a time interval for channel prediction, and predict channel state information for a communications channel using said time interval and measured channel state information, and transmit a beamforming matrix generated using said predicted channel state information, said measured channel state information comprising channel responses for previously communicated frames of information and said channel responses indexed by frame numbers of said previously communicated frames.

20. The article of claim 19 , further comprising:

instructions that, executed by a processor, enable the system to transmit information over said communications channel using said predicted channel state information.

21. The article of claim 19 , further comprising:

instructions that, executed by a processor, enable the system to transmit said predicted channel state information.

22. The article of claim 19 , further comprising:

instructions that, executed by a processor, enable the system to generate a said beamforming matrix using said predicted channel state information.
