Abstract

A method of forming an extended tab label is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a paper supply to a printer, the paper supply having an adhesive covering at least a portion thereof. Inputting patient-specific information through a computer to the printer. Printing the patient-specific information on the paper supply, where the paper supply containing patient-specific information thereon forms a label having a length greater than a circumference of a container accepting the label.

Claims (24)

1. A method of forming an extended tab label, the method comprising the steps of:

providing a paper supply to a printer, the paper supply having an adhesive backing covering at least a portion thereof, the adhesive backing having a liner thereon with a score formed therein, the score defining a first label portion configured to dimensionally correspond to a circumference of a container and a second label portion;

inputting patient-specific information through a computer to the printer;

printing the patient-specific information on the paper supply, wherein the paper supply containing patient-specific information thereon forms a label having a length greater than the circumference of the container accepting the label;

removing a portion of the liner from the first label portion and exposing the adhesive backing on the first label portion, such that the second label portion retains a remaining portion of the liner for allowing the second portion to project radially from the container;

removing at least part of the remaining liner on the second portion; and

folding the second portion back onto itself and adhering the second portion to itself.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein the paper supply is thermal paper.

3. The method according to claim 1 wherein the printer is selected from the group consisting of thermal, laser, and inkjet printers.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the label has a front face and a rear face, the rear face having the adhesive backing,

the first portion affixed by the adhesive around at least a portion of the circumference of the container with the front face facing outward from the container, and

wherein the front face portion of the first portion and the second portion have information thereon.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the printing of drug information on the thermal paper supply.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the printed label is adhered to a medicinal container.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the medicinal container is cylindrical.

8. A method of forming an extended tab label, the method comprising the steps of:

providing a thermal paper supply to a thermal printer, the thermal paper supply having an adhesive backing covering at least a portion thereof, said adhesive backing having a liner thereon with a score formed therein, the score defining a first label portion configured to dimensionally correspond to a circumference of a container and a second label portion;

inputting patient-specific information through a computer to the thermal printer;

printing the patient-specific information on the thermal paper supply, wherein the thermal paper supply containing patient-specific information thereon forms a label having a length greater than the circumference of the container accepting the label, and removing the printed label from the thermal printer;

removing a portion of the liner from the first label portion and exposing the adhesive backing on the first label portion, such that the second label portion retains a remaining portion of the liner for allowing the second portion to project radially from the container;

removing at least part of the remaining liner on the second portion; and

folding the second portion back onto itself and adhering the second portion to itself.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the thermal printer is a direct thermal printer.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the thermal printer is a thermal transfer printer.
