Abstract

A method and apparatus is provided for receiving and/or reproducing a digital signal, capable of efficiently recording a compressed, packeted digital signal and inhibiting a copy thereof. An input packet signal is added with a time stamp indicating a relative time of an arrival of the packet, and the packet signals of digital information with the added time stamps are recorded at reduced intervals therebetween. In reproducing, a packet interval adjusting circuit restores the original packet intervals in accordance with the time stamps, and then a time stamp change circuit changes at least one bit of the time stamp and thereafter outputs the digital information.

Claims (34)

1. A receiver apparatus for a digital signal comprising:

a receiver which receives a plurality of programs with discrimination information and guide information regarding said plurality of programs,

wherein said plurality of programs are time-division multiplexed into a plurality of data packets and said guide information indicates the identification information of packets of the plurality of programs and the contents of said plurality of programs;

a selector which selects a program from said plurality of programs received by said receiver based on the discrimination information;

a data former which forms guide information regarding the selected program from the received guide information regarding said plurality of programs, the formed guide information indicating the identification information of packets of the selected program and the contents of the selected program, and forms a program signal by re-multiplexing the selected program and the formed guide information regarding only the selected program into plurality of packets form, and by adding a time stamp indicating the time of packet arrival as header information to each packet; and

an output device which outputs the formed program signal.

2. A receiver apparatus for a digital signal comprising:

a receiver which receives a plurality of programs with discrimination information and guide information regarding said plurality of programs,

wherein said plurality of programs are time-division multiplexed into a plurality of data packets and said guide information indicates identification information of packets of the plurality of programs and the contents of said plurality of programs;

a selector which selects a program from said plurality of programs received by said receiver based on the discrimination information;

a data former which forms guide information regarding the selected program from the received guide information regarding said plurality of programs, the formed guide information indicating the identification information of packets of the selected program and the contents of the selected program, and forms a program signal by re-multiplexing the selected program and the formed guide information regarding only the selected program into a plurality of packets form, and by adding a time stamp indicating the time of packet arrival as header information to each packet;

an output/input device which outputs/inputs the formed program signal;

a change-over circuit which selects and outputs the program selected by said selector or the selected program input by said output/input device; and

a decoder which decodes a program selected by said change-over circuit,

wherein the program selected by said selector is decoded based on said guide information received by said receiver, and said selected program input by said output/input device is decoded based on said formed guide information input by said output/input device.

3. A receiver apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said formed guide information indicates at least a title of said selected program.

4. A receiver apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein said formed guide information indicates at least a title of said selected program.

5. A receiver apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said formed guide information at least indicates a start time of the selected program.

6. A receiver apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein said formed guide information indicates at least a start-time of the selected program.

7. A receiver apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprising:

a display which displays said selected program decoded by said decoder.

8. A recorder apparatus for a digital signal comprising:

a receiver which receives a plurality of programs with discrimination information and guide information regarding said plurality of programs,

wherein said plurality of programs are time-division multiplexed into a plurality of data packets and said guide information indicates identification information of packets of the plurality of programs and the contents of said plurality of programs;

a selector which selects a program from the plurality of programs received by said receiver based on the discrimination information;

a data former which forms guide information regarding the selected program from the received guide information regarding said programs, the formed guide information indicating the contents of the selected program, and forms a program signal by re-multiplexing the selected program and the formed guide information regarding only the selected program into a plurality of packets form, and by adding a time stamp indicating the time of packet arrival as header information to each packet;

a recording/reproducing device which records said selected program and the formed guide information and reproduces said selected program and said formed guide information;

a change-over circuit which selects and outputs the program selected by said selector or the selected program reproduced by said recording/reproducing device; and

a decoder which decodes a program selected by said changeover circuit,

wherein the program selected by said selector is decoded based on said guide information received by said receiver, and said selected program reproduced by said recording/reproducing device is decoded based on said formed guide information reproduced by said recording/reproducing device.

9. A recorder apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein said formed guide information indicates at least a title of said selected program.

10. A recorder apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein said formed guide information indicates at least a start time of said selected program.

11. A recorder apparatus according to claim 8 , further comprising:

a display which displays said selected program decoded by said decoder.
