MVA expressing modified HIV envelope, gag, and pol genes
The invention provides modified virus Ankara (MVA), a replication-deficient strain of vaccinia virus, expressing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) env, gag, and pol genes.
1. A method of inducing a CD8+T cell immune response to an HIV-1 Env, HIV-1 Gag or HIV-1 Pol antigen in a primate, the method comprising:
(a) administering to the primate a composition comprising a nucleic acid encoding at least one antigen selected from: HIV-1 gag, HIV-1 Pol and at least the gp120 protein and the membrane-spanning domain and ectodomain of the gp41 protein of HIV-1 Env; and
(b) after administering the nucleic acid to the primate, administering to the primate a composition comprising recombinant MVA virus expressing the Gag and Pol encoded by SEQ ID NO:5 and the Env encoded by SEQ ID NO:3,
whereby a CD8+T cell immune response to an HIV-1 Env, Gag or Pol antigen is induced.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the primate is human.
