Abstract

A supercapacitor or battery electrode containing a modified graphite oxide material, which is a thermally exfoliated graphite oxide with a surface area of from about 300 m 2 /g to 2600 m 2 /g.

Claims (15)

1. A supercapacitor, comprising a modified graphite oxide material, comprising thermally exfoliated graphite oxide having a surface area of from about 400 m 2 /g to 2600 m 2 /g.

2. The supercapacitor of claim 1 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a surface area of from about 500 m 2 /g to 2600 m 2 /g.

3. The supercapacitor of claim 1 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a bulk density of from about 40 kg/m 3 to 0.1 kg/m 3 .

4. The supercapacitor of claim 1 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a C/O ratio of from about 60/40 to 95/5.

5. The supercapacitor of claim 4 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a C/O ratio of from about 65/35 to 85/15.

6. The supercapacitor of claim 1 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a surface area of from about 400 m 2 /g to 1100 m 2 /g.

7. A battery electrode, comprising a modified graphite oxide material, comprising thermally exfoliated graphite oxide having a surface area of from about 400 m 2 /g to 2600 m 2 /g.

8. The battery electrode of claim 7 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a surface area of from about 500 m 2 /g to 2600 m 2 /g.

9. The battery electrode of claim 7 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a bulk density of from about 40 kg/m 3 to 0.1 kg/m 3 .

10. The battery electrode of claim 7 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a C/O ratio of from about 60/40 to 95/5.

11. The battery electrode of claim 7 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a C/O ratio of from about 65/35 to 85/15.

12. The battery electrode of claim 7 , wherein the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide has a surface area of from about 400 m 2 /g to 1100 m 2 /g.

13. The battery electrode of claim 7 , made from a dispersion of the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide.

14. The battery electrode of claim 7 , made from a paste of the thermally exfoliated graphite oxide.

15. The battery electrode of claim 7 , in the form of a flat surface electrode.
