Abstract

The disclosures made herein relate to an infusion device specifically adapted for syringe injections. In one embodiment of the disclosures made herein, an infusion device comprises a body including an accessible surface having a single inlet port therein, an engagement surface having a single outlet port therein, a medication delivery channel extending between the single inlet port and the single outlet port, and an identification feature on the accessible surface of the body adjacent to the single inlet port. The single inlet port of the medication delivery channel is tapered thereby forming a funnel-shaped entry into the medication delivery channel. A cannula is coupled to the body at the single outlet port and is adapted for receiving medication from the single outlet port and transmitting the medication therethrough.

Claims (11)

1. An infusion device comprising:

a body having a body passageway, a bottom, and a top, the body passageway having an inwardly-tapered portion extending from a single inlet port in the top, the single inlet port being the body's only inlet port for providing access to the body passageway;

an adhesive laminate member coupled to the bottom of the body;

a flexible cannula having a cannula passageway, a top, and a portion extending from the bottom of the body, the cannula passageway having a cannula passageway end positioned outside the body, the cannula passageway end having a width;

a septum positioned within the body passageway, the septum having a first cross-section positioned parallel to an axis centered in the inwardly-tapered portion of the body passageway, the septum first cross-section having (a) a first dimension that is parallel to the axis and (b) a second dimension that is perpendicular to the axis and greater than the first dimension; and

an insertion needle having a portion positioned in the flexible cannula;

the top of the flexible cannula being closer to the septum than is the adhesive laminate member; and

the septum also having a septum top surface that includes a septum top surface portion accessible to an injection needle, the septum top surface portion being bounded by a septum top surface portion perimeter that has a greatest width that is greater than the width of the cannula passageway end.

2. The infusion device of claim 1 , in which the septum includes an outer wall extending from the septum top surface that includes an inwardly-tapered portion.

3. The infusion device of claim 1 , in which the septum includes a bottom, and the infusion device includes (a) a first greatest distance parallel to the axis between the septum top surface and the top of the body and (b) a second greatest distance parallel to the axis between the bottom of the septum and the bottom of the body, the second greatest distance being greater than the first greatest distance.

4. The infusion device of claim 1 , in which the body includes an identification feature adjacent to the single inlet port for identifying the body passageway.
