Abstract

Acute myeloid leukemia stem cells (AMLSC) are identified. The cells can be prospectively isolated or identified from patient samples, and are shown to possess the unique properties of cancer stem cells in functional assays for cancer stem cell self-renewal and differentiation, and in cancer diagnosis.

Claims (7)

1. A method of depleting acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cancer stem cells from a patient sample, the method comprising

contacting a sample from a patient suffering from AML in vitro with reagents specific for CD96;

selecting from the sample cells that are CD96 + , thereby depleting AML cancer stem cells.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selecting is performed by flow cytometry.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sample is a blood sample.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient is undergoing treatment for AML.
