Abstract

The present invention is. directed to pyridyl piperidine compounds of formula (I) which are antagonists of orexin receptors, and which are useful' in the treatment or prevention of neurological and psychiatric disorders and diseases in which orexin receptors are involved. The invention is also directed to pharmaceutical compositions comprising these compounds and the use of these compounds and compositions in the prevention or treatment of such diseases in which orexin receptors are involved.

Claims (9)

1. A compound which is 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. A compound which is 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine.

3. A compound which is 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

4. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and a compound which is 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

5. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and the compound 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine.

6. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and the compound 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

A method for treating insomnia in a human patient in need thereof which comprises administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a compound which is 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

8. A method for treating insomnia in a human patient in need thereof which comprises administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of the compound 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine.

9. A method for treating insomnia in a human patient in need thereof which comprises administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of the compound 2-{2-[((2R,5R)-5-{[(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)oxy]methyl}-2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)carbonyl]-4-methylphenyl}pyrimidine in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
