Abstract

A carbon nanotube composite includes a free-standing carbon nanotube structure and an amount of reinforcements. The free-standing carbon nanotube structure includes an amount of carbon nanotubes. The reinforcements are located on the carbon nanotubes and combining the carbon nanotubes together.

Claims (20)

1. A carbon nanotube composite comprising:

a free-standing carbon nanotube structure comprising a plurality of carbon nanotubes; and

a plurality of reinforcements located on the plurality of carbon nanotubes and combining the plurality of carbon nanotubes together,

wherein the plurality of reinforcements are a plurality of reinforcing grains, and the plurality of reinforcing grains are in contact with each other.

2. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of reinforcing grains are located on each of the plurality of carbon nanotubes.

3. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein a size of the plurality of reinforcing grains is in a range from about 1 nm to about 50 nm.

4. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein a material of the plurality of reinforcements is selected from the group consisting of zinc, iron, cobalt, manganese, copper, nickel, gold, silver, platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, palladium, zinc oxide, ferric oxide, magnetite, manganese dioxide, nickel oxide, copper oxide, cobalt oxide, cobalt (III) oxide, and combinations thereof.

5. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein the carbon nanotube structure comprises at least one carbon nanotube film.

6. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 5 , wherein the at least one carbon nanotube film comprises a plurality carbon nanotubes entangled with each other.

7. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 5 , wherein the at least one carbon nanotube film comprises a pressed carbon nanotube array.

8. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 5 , wherein the at least one carbon nanotube film comprises a plurality of successively oriented carbon nanotube segments joined end-to-end by van der Waals attractive force therebetween.

9. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 5 , wherein the at least one carbon nanotube film comprises a plurality of carbon nanotube films stacked with each other.

10. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein the carbon nanotube structure comprises at least one carbon nanotube wire structure.

11. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of carbon nanotubes define a plurality of clearances in the free-standing carbon nanotube structure, the plurality of reinforcements are located in the plurality of clearances to combine spaced carbon nanotubes.

12. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of reinforcements are located at contacting place between two adjacent carbon nanotubes which are combined by the reinforcements.

13. The carbon nanotube composite of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of reinforcements are uniformly distributed on an outer surface of each of the plurality of carbon nanotubes.

14. A carbon nanotube composite comprising:

a free-standing carbon nanotube structure comprising a plurality of carbon nanotubes; and

a plurality of reinforcements located on the plurality of carbon nanotubes and combining the plurality of carbon nanotubes together,

wherein the plurality of reinforcements comprises a plurality of reinforcing grains and a plurality of reinforcing layers, and the plurality of reinforcing grains are in contact with each other.
