Abstract

A sound insulating trim part with acoustic mass-spring characteristics is provided. The sound insulating trim part includes a mass layer and a decoupling layer. The mass layer includes a porous fibrous layer with a dynamic Young's modulus E of at least about 96·AW·t (Pa), with AW being an area weight (g/m 2 ), and t being a thickness (mm) of the porous fibrous layer. The mass layer also includes an air impervious thin barrier layer. The barrier layer is disposed between the porous fibrous layer and the decoupling layer. The barrier layer, the porous fibrous layer, and the decoupling layers are laminated together.

Claims (44)

1. A sound insulating part for a vehicle, comprising:

a mass layer including:

a porous fibrous layer formed of a material having a dynamic Young's modulus, wherein the dynamic Young's modulus for the material of the porous fibrous layer has a value of at least about 96·AW·t(Pa), with AW being an area weight (g/m 2 ), and t being a thickness (mm) of the porous fibrous layer; and

a barrier layer that is substantially air impervious and that has a thickness of less than about 80(μm); and

a decoupling layer adjacent to the mass layer, the decoupling layer comprised of a solid-phase material,

wherein the barrier layer is disposed between the porous fibrous layer and the decoupling layer, and

wherein the barrier layer, the porous fibrous layer, and the decoupling layer are laminated together.

2. The sound insulating part according to claim 1 , wherein the thickness t of the fibrous layer is between about 1 and 10(mm).

3. The sound insulating part according to claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of at least about 40(μm).

4. The sound insulating part according to claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of about 60 to 80(μm).

5. The sound insulating part according to claim 1 , wherein an additional absorbing layer is disposed on at least a part of the porous fibrous layer.

6. The sound insulating part according to claim 1 , wherein the porous fibrous layer is at least partially covered with a scrim layer.

7. The sound insulating part according to claim 1 , wherein the solid-phase material comprises at least one of a thermosetting foam and fibrous material.

8. A sound-insulating trim part with acoustic mass-spring characteristics, comprising:

a mass layer including:

a porous fibrous layer formed of a material having a dynamic Young's modulus, wherein the dynamic Young's modulus for the material of the porous fibrous layer has a value of at least about 96·AW·t(Pa), with AW being an area weight (g/m 2 ), and t being a thickness (mm) of the porous fibrous layer; and

a barrier layer that is substantially air impervious; and

a decoupling layer adjacent the mass layer, the decoupling layer comprised of a solid-phase material,

wherein the barrier layer is disposed between the porous fibrous layer and the decoupling layer, and

wherein the barrier layer, the porous fibrous layer, and the decoupling layers are laminated together.

9. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein the area weight AW of the fibrous layer is between about 500 and 2000(g/m 2 ).

10. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein the thickness t of the fibrous layer is between about 1 and 10(mm).

11. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of at least about 40(μm).

12. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 11 , wherein the barrier layer has a thickness of about 60 to 80(μm).

13. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein an absorbing layer is disposed on at least a part of the porous fibrous layer.

14. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 13 , wherein at least the absorbing layer is covered with a scrim layer.

15. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein the porous fibrous layer is at least partially covered with a scrim layer.

16. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein a decorative layer is placed on the porous fibrous layer.

17. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 16 , wherein the decorative layer comprises at least one of a tufted carpet or a nonwoven carpet.

18. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein the decoupling layer has a compressional stiffness of less than about 100 (kPa).

19. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein the decoupling layer is porous or open pored.

20. The sound insulating trim part according to claim 8 , wherein the solid-phase material comprises at least one of a thermosetting foam and fibrous material.

21. A sound-insulating trim part, comprising:

a mass layer including:

a porous fibrous layer formed of a material having a dynamic Young's modulus E, wherein the dynamic Young's modulus for the material of the porous fibrous layer has a value of at least about 96·AW·t(Pa), with AW being an area weight (g/m 2 ), and t being a thickness (mm) of the porous fibrous layer; and

a barrier layer that is substantially air impervious and that has a thickness of less than about 80(μm); and

a decoupling layer adjacent to the mass layer, the decoupling layer comprised of a solid-phase material,
