Solid state light assembly having light redirection elements
A light assembly that includes an enclosure, a circuit board having a plurality of light sources disposed within the enclosure, and a plurality of light redirection elements associated with a respective one of the plurality of light sources. Each of the light redirection elements directs light toward a common point within the enclosure.
1. A light assembly comprising:
an enclosure;
a circuit board having a plurality of light-emitting diodes disposed within the enclosure; and
a plurality of light redirection elements associated with a respective one of the plurality of light-emitting diodes, each of the light redirection elements redirecting light emitted from the respective one of the plurality of light-emitting diodes toward a common point within the enclosure.
2. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the circuit board is curved and forms a continuous surface with the enclosure.
3. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the plurality of light redirection elements directs light along an axis perpendicular to a tangential line of the circuit board.
4. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the enclosure comprises a cover and housing.
5. A light assembly as recited in claim 4 wherein the cover comprises a center coincident with the common point.
6. A light assembly as recited in claim 5 wherein the cover is ellipsoidal or spheroidal.
7. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 further comprising a heat sink disposed adjacent to the enclosure, said circuit board radiating heat radially outward, the enclosure dissipating heat together with the heat sink.
8. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 further comprising a heat sink comprising fins, said heat sink having an opening aligned with a common axis of the enclosure.
9. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 further comprising a light-shifting element extending across the light redirection elements.
10. A light assembly as recited in claim 9 wherein a center of the light-shifting element is coincident with the common point.
11. A light assembly as recited in claim 9 wherein the light-shifting element comprises a film disposed between the common point and the plurality of light-emitting diodes.
12. A light assembly as recited in claim 11 wherein the film comprises a material having a light-shifting gradient having a first light-shifting rate adjacent to the enclosure and a second light-shifting rate adjacent to a center point of the film greater than the first light-shifting rate.
13. A light assembly as recited in claim 9 wherein the light-shifting element is coupled to the circuit board with a stand-off.
14. A light assembly as recited in claim 9 wherein the light-shifting element is spherical.
15. A light assembly as recited in claim 9 wherein the light-shifting element comprises a dome coupled to the circuit board.
16. A light assembly as recited in claim 9 wherein the light redirection elements comprise a reflective surface disposed within an opening of the circuit board having the light-emitting diodes disposed therein.
17. A light assembly as recited in claim 16 wherein the reflective surface reflects light to the common point.
18. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the light redirection elements comprise reflectors disposed around each of the light-emitting diodes.
19. A light assembly as recited in claim 18 wherein the reflectors comprise a partial ellipsoid having a first focal point at a light-emitting diode of the plurality of light-emitting diodes and a second focal point at the common point.
20. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the plurality of light-emitting diodes generates light in the blue or ultra-violet spectrum.
