Abstract

Thermoplastic molding compositions, comprising A) from 10 to 98% by weight of at least one thermoplastic polymer, B) from 0.01 to 50% by weight of B1) at least one highly branched or hyperbranched polycarbonate having an OH number of from 1 to 600 mg KOH/g of polycarbonate (to DIN 53240, Part 2), or B2) at least one highly branched or hyperbranched polyester of A x B y type, where x is at least 1.1 and y is at least 2.1, or a mixture of these, C) from 1 to 40% by weight of a halogen-free flame retardant, selected from the group of the phosphorus-containing or nitrogen-containing compounds, or of the P—N condensates, or a mixture of these, D) from 0 to 60% by weight of other additives, where the total of the percentages by weight of components A) to D) is 100%.

Claims (38)

1. A thermoplastic molding composition, comprising;

A) from 10 to 98% by weight of at least one thermoplastic polymer;

B) from 0.01 to 50% by weight of

B1) at least one hyperbranched polycarbonate having an OH number of from 1 to 600 mg KOH/g of polycarbonate wherein component B1) has a glass transition temperature Tg of from −80° C. to 140° C., or

B2) at least one a hyperbranched A x B y polyester,

or a mixture of thereof,

wherein A x and B y are different monomers and indices x and y are the number of functional groups present in A and B,

wherein x is at least 1.1 and y is at least 2.1,

wherein B2) has an OH number of from 0 to 600 mg KOH/g wherein component B2) has a glass transition temperature Tg of from −50 to 140° C. and a COOH number of from 0 to 600 mg KOH/g,

wherein a degree of branching of B2) is from 10 to 99.9%,

and wherein B1) and B2) have both structural and molecular non-uniformity;

C) from 1 to 40% by weight of a halogen-free flame retardant, selected from the group consisting of phosphorus-containing or nitrogen-containing compounds, the P—N condensates, and mixtures thereof; and

D) from 0 to 60% by weight of other additives,

wherein the total of the percentages by weight of components A) to D) is 100%.

2. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 1 , wherein component B2) has a number-average molar mass M n of from 300 to 30 000 g/mol.

3. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 1 , wherein the ratio of components B1):B2) is from 1:20 to 20:1.

4. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 1 , wherein component B1) has a viscosity (mPas) at 23° C. (DIN 53019) of from 50 to 200 000.

5. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 4 , wherein component B2) has a number-average molar mass M n of from 300 to 30 000 g/mol.

6. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 1 , wherein component B1) has a number-average molar mass M n of from 100 to 15 000 g/mol.

7. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 6 , wherein component B1) has a viscosity (mPas) at 23° C. of from 50 to 200 000.

8. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 6 , wherein component B2) has a number-average molar mass M n of from 300 to 30 000 g/mol.

9. The thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 6 , wherein component B2) has a glass transition temperature T g of from −50 to 140° C.

10. A thermoplastic molding composition, comprising;

A)from 10 to 98% by weight of at least one thermoplastic polymer;

B) from 0.5 to 20% by weight of

B1) at least one hyperbranched polycarbonate having an OH number of from 1 to 600 mg KOH/g of polycarbonate wherein component B1) has a glass transition temperature Tg of from −80° C. to 140° C., or

B2) at least one a hyperbranched A x B y polyester,

or a mixture of thereof,

wherein A x and B y are different monomers and indices x and y are the number of functional groups present in A and B,

wherein x is at least 1.1 and y is at least 2.1,

wherein B2) has an OH number of from 0 to 600 mg KOH/g wherein component B2) has a glass transition temperature Tg of from −50 to 140° C. and a COOH number of from 0 to 600 mg KOH/g,

wherein a degree of branching of B2) is from 10 to 99.9%,

and wherein B1) and B2) have both structural and molecular non-uniformity;

C) from 1 to 40% by weight of a halogen-free flame retardant, selected from the group consisting of phosphorus-containing or nitrogen-containing compounds, the P—N condensates, and mixtures thereof; and

D) from 0 to 60% by weight of other additives, wherein the total of the percentages by weight of components A) to D) is 100%.

11. The thermoplastic molding composition of claim 10 , comprising 0.7 to 10% by weight of component B).

12. A fiber, a foil, or a molding, obtained from the thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 1 .

13. A method of making a fiber, foil, or molding, the method comprising: preparing a thermoplastic molding composition according to claim 1 ; and forming a fiber, foil, or molding from the thermoplastic molding composition.
