Abstract

The present invention provides systems and methods of facilitating money transfers. The method includes receiving, at a money transfer system, access to a customer's account, establishing, at the money transfer system, a money transfer record including a recipient and an amount, and receiving, at the money transfer system, an identifier for the money transfer record. The method further includes receiving presentation of the identifier at an input device of the money transfer system and authorizing a money transfer associated with the money transfer record.

Claims (61)

1. A method of facilitating money transfers, the method comprising:

establishing a money transfer record associated with a money transfer package;

making the money transfer package available for sale at a vendor location, the money transfer package denominating an amount of money associated with the money transfer package;

receiving a money transfer activation request associated with the money transfer package, the activation request including an activation amount of money to be associated to the money transfer card;

receiving from a sender a money transfer fulfillment request, the money transfer fulfillment request comprising:

a request to transfer a first portion of the amount of money to a first receiver;

the sender's personal identification information; and

the first receiver's personal identification information;

in response to the money transfer fulfillment request, providing a money transfer transaction identifier to the sender;

authorizing payment of a money transfer associated with the money transfer record to the first receiver based on receipt of the money transfer transaction identifier from the first receiver;

receiving from the sender a second money transfer fulfillment request, the second money transfer fulfillment request comprising:

a request to transfer a second portion of the amount of money to a second receiver; and

the second receiver's personal identification information;

in response to the second money transfer fulfillment request, providing a second money transfer transaction identifier to the sender; and

authorizing payment of a second money transfer associated with the money transfer record to the second receiver based on receipt of the second money transfer transaction identifier from the second receiver.

2. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 1 , wherein receiving the money transfer fulfillment request comprises receiving an account identifier associated with the money transfer record, the account identifier disposed on the money transfer package.

3. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 1 , wherein the money transfer record comprises an account identifier and a code.

4. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 3 , wherein receiving the money transfer fulfillment request comprises receiving the account identifier and the code from the sender.

5. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 4 , further comprising receiving the money transfer fulfillment request via a website.

6. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 1 , wherein the personal identification information comprises a name of the sender.

7. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 1 , wherein the personal identification information comprises a name of the first or second receiver.

8. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 1 , wherein the vendor location comprises a retail outlet.

9. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 1 , wherein the activation amount of money corresponds to the amount of money denominated on the money transfer package.

10. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 1 , wherein the first receiver and the second receiver are the same.

11. A method of facilitating money transfers, the method comprising:

providing a money transfer package available for sale at a vendor location, the money transfer package including:

a label or tag readable by a point of sale device at the vendor location to charge a customer for purchase of the money transfer package; and

a code of characters hidden by the money transfer package;

receiving a fulfillment request from a sender via a website, the fulfillment request including the following information input by the sender:

the sender's personal identification information;

a receiver's personal identification information; and

the code of characters

in response to the fulfillment request, sending a money transfer transaction identifier to the sender via the website; and

authorizing payment of a money transfer to the receiver based on receipt of the money transfer transaction identifier from the receiver.

12. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the vendor location comprises a retail outlet.

13. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 12 , wherein the money transfer package includes an aperture for hanging the package on a point-of-purchase display of the retail outlet.

14. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the money transfer transaction number is received from the receiver at a money transfer location of the money transfer host.

15. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , further comprising emailing the money transfer transaction number to the sender.

16. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the money transfer package further includes a denomination of a money transfer fee.

17. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the money transfer package is purchased by the customer along with one or more retail items.

18. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the money transfer package further includes a denomination of an amount of money associated with the money transfer package, and wherein the customer is charged the denominated amount for purchase of the money transfer package.

19. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the label or tag is a universal product code (UPC).

20. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the code of characters comprise alphanumeric characters.

21. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the website is a website of a money transfer host.

22. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 11 , wherein the money transfer transaction identifier is received from the receiver via telephone.

23. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 22 , wherein the money transfer transaction identifier is provided to a customer service representative or an interactive voice response (IVR) system.

24. A method of facilitating money transfers, the method comprising:

providing a money transfer package, the money transfer package being available for sale at a vendor location and the money transfer package including:

a label or tag readable by a point of sale device at the vendor location to charge a customer for purchase of the money transfer package; and

a code that is hidden by the money transfer package;

receiving from a sender via a website, the sender's personal identification information;

receiving a receiver's personal identification information from the sender via the website;

receiving the code from the sender via the website;

sending a money transfer transaction identifier to the sender via the website; and

authorizing payment of a money transfer to the receiver based on receipt of the money transfer transaction identifier from the receiver.

25. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 24 , wherein the money transfer package includes an aperture for hanging the package on a point-of-purchase display of the retail outlet.

The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 24 , further comprising receiving a money transfer activation request associated with the money transfer package, the activation request including an activation amount of money to be associated to the money transfer card, the activation amount of money corresponding to an amount of money denominated on the money transfer package.

27. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 26 , wherein the money transfer activation request is received from the vendor location.

28. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 27 , wherein the money transfer activation request is embodied in the label or tag and is transmitted to the money transfer host subsequent to the label or tag being read at the vendor location.

29. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 24 , wherein the label or tag is a universal product code (UPC).

30. The method of facilitating money transfers as in claim 24 , wherein the money transfer transaction identifier is received from the receiver via telephone.
