Abstract

A system for enabling play of a casino table card game is disclosed. At least one of a rank and suit of a set of playing cards is automatically determined. Multiple randomized sets of playing cards of known composition are formed and delivered to a game, and are set by following automatically generated house way instructions. The components of the system include an automatic card shuffler configured to deliver randomized sets of physical cards, the shuffler equipped with a playing card reading system that reads at least one of a rank and suit of markings on each of the playing cards. The automatic card shuffler has a processor that receives the read card information from the playing card reading system and determines a composition of each individual set of playing cards dispensed. Other components of the system include a gaming table with a gaming surface and at least one display on or proximate the gaming surface in communication with a processor programmed with house way rules for displaying instructions on how to set hands from a distributed set of cards a house way; wherein the monitor displays information on how to set a hand according to programmed house way rules. A method of operating a casino table card game using physical playing cards that are distributed in sets to multiple play positions and set according to automatically generated house way instructions is also disclosed.

Claims (35)

1. A casino table card game system, comprising:

an automatic card shuffler configured to form randomized sets of physical playing cards and to dispense the randomized sets, the automatic card shuffler equipped with a playing card reading system for reading card information including at least one of a rank and suit of each of the playing cards of the randomized sets, wherein the automatic card shuffler has a processor configured to receive the card information from the playing card reading system and to determine a composition of each randomized set of playing cards dispensed;

a gaming table with a gaming surface including player positions and a dealer position for receipt of the randomized sets; and

at least one video monitor on or proximate the gaming surface in communication with a processor programmed with house way rules, the at least one video monitor for displaying instructions on how to set hands from a dispensed randomized set of playing cards according to the house way rules in response to a dealer input.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the casino table card game enabled is pai gow poker and the processor is programmed to display a rank, suit or rank and suit of a two-card low hand on the at least one video monitor.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the casino table card game enabled is pai gow poker and the processor is programmed to display a rank, suit, or rank and suit of a five-card high hand on the at least one video monitor.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the casino table card game enabled is pai gow poker and the processor is programmed to display an image of a two-card low hand on the at least one video monitor.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the casino table card game enabled is pai gow poker and the processor is programmed to display an image of a five-card high hand on the at least one video monitor.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the shuffler dispenses randomized sets of seven cards each and the processor determines from the composition of each of the randomized sets and the house way rules how to set a five-card hand and a two-card hand from each dispensed randomized set of seven cards.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the video monitor is flush-mounted into the gaming surface.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the video monitor is pole-mounted proximate the gaming surface.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the composition of each randomized set of playing cards is stored in memory.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor programmed with house way rules is the same processor that controls the card shuffler.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor programmed with house way rules is a different processor than the processor that controls the card shuffler.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further programmed with game rules for determining game outcome.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the dealer input comprises a dealer input for requesting instructions for setting a hand the house way.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the dealer input includes a selection menu of multiple sets of cards from which to select a set to set.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the multiple sets of cards include a dealer set and at least one player set.

16. A method of operating a casino table card game, the method comprising:

providing a complete set of physical playing cards for use in the casino table card game to an automatic card shuffler;

receiving a game wager on the casino table card game from at least one player;

randomizing at least some playing cards of the complete set of physical playing cards with the automatic card shuffler and automatically forming randomized sets of cards;

reading rank and suit of playing cards in each randomized set of cards with a reader to determine rank and suit information for each randomized set;

communicating the rank and suit information to a processor;

delivering the randomized sets of cards from the automatic card shuffler to play positions of the at least one player and of a dealer;

the processor identifying with the processor each card in each randomized set delivered to each play position;

determining with the processor a house way to set hands with cards from the randomized set at each play position;

upon dealer request, displaying on a monitor house way to set the hands; and

setting at least one hand from the randomized set delivered to the play position of the dealer, and optionally to a play position of at least one player, according to the displayed house way to set the hands.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the casino table card game is pai gow poker, and wherein delivering a randomized set of cards to play positions of the at least one player and of a dealer comprises delivering seven physical cards to each play position.

18. A casino table card game system, the system comprising:

an automatic card shuffler configured to randomize physical playing cards and to dispense the randomized physical playing cards, the automatic card shuffler comprising a playing card reading system for reading at least one of rank and suit of each of the randomized physical playing cards;

a processor in communication with the playing card reading system for receiving the at least one of rank and suit of each of the randomized physical playing cards read by the playing card reading system, the processor programmed with house way rules for setting hands from a set of the physical playing cards dispensed by the automatic card shuffler;

a gaming table with a gaming surface including player positions and a dealer position for receipt of randomized sets of the physical playing cards; and

at least one video monitor in communication with the processor, wherein, responsive to a dealer input, the at least one video monitor displays information on how to set hands from a dispensed set of the physical playing cards based on the house way rules.
