Abstract

An improved protector allows the operation of camera buttons to operate at greater depths through use of a “see-saw” mechanism proximate the camera buttons.

Claims (27)

1. A waterproof digital camera combination, comprising:

(a) digital camera with a plurality of function members, a rear viewing screen and a front lens;

(b) a synthetic skin that encases said camera by snugly fitting around said camera to provide a water-tight enclosure thereof;

wherein said synthetic skin has a lens port to accommodate said camera front lens and a transparent portion corresponding to said camera rear viewing screen; wherein said synthetic skin transparent portion of said synthetic skin has an opening and a cooperating transparent plate that is dimensioned and formed so that it can be repeatedly movable from an open position to a closed position and vice versa, where in said closed position, a water-tight relationship is formed by said transparent member with the remainder of said synthetic skin and where in said open position, the dimensions of said synthetic skin opening permit the camera to be inserted therethrough and removed therethrough, so that said synthetic skin transparent portion performs the double function of (1) permitting the user to see said camera rear viewing screen when said camera is within said synthetic skin and (2) forming a removable opening for the insertion into said synthetic skin of said camera and for its removal therefrom; and

wherein said synthetic skin is flexible enough to permit stretching thereof for the insertion of the camera through said synthetic skin opening, and said synthetic skin is of a thickness and elasticity to allow said function members to be operated by a user pressing the corresponding portions of said synthetic skin.

2. The combination of claim 1 , wherein said synthetic skin transparent portion has a hole with a grooved perimeter for releasably accepting said transparent plate.

3. The combination of claim 2 , wherein one of said camera function members is a button operated by horizontal movement, and said synthetic skin has a member that is manipulable by the user for translating that manipulation, by a friction-fit, to said camera function button.

4. The combination of claim 3 , wherein said camera function member is a rotatable dial.

5. The combination of claim 3 , wherein said camera function member is a slide button.

6. The combination of claim 1 , wherein the portion of said synthetic skin around said lens port is relatively dark compared to the color of the remainder of said synthetic skin.

7. The combination of claim 2 , wherein the portion of said synthetic skin around said lens port is relatively dark compared to the color of the remainder of said synthetic skin.

8. The combination of claim 3 , wherein the portion of said synthetic skin around said lens port is relatively dark compared to the color of the remainder of said synthetic skin.

9. The combination of claim 4 , wherein the portion of said synthetic skin around said lens port is relatively dark compared to the color of the remainder of said synthetic skin.

10. The combination of claim 5 , wherein the portion of said synthetic skin around said lens port is relatively dark compared to the color of the remainder of said synthetic skin.

11. A waterproof digital camera combination, comprising:

(a) digital camera with a plurality of function members, a rear viewing screen and a front lens;

(b) a synthetic skin that encases said camera by snugly fitting around said camera to provide a water-tight enclosure thereof;

wherein said synthetic skin has a lens port to accommodate said front lens of said camera; and wherein said synthetic skin is generally of a light color and said synthetic skin around the lens port is relatively dark; and

wherein said synthetic skin has a transparent portion corresponding to said camera rear viewing screen, and wherein said synthetic skin transparent portion of said synthetic skin has an opening that is dimensioned and formed to permit the camera to be inserted therethrough and removed therethrough, so that said synthetic skin transparent portion performs the double function of (1) permitting the user to see said camera rear viewing screen when said camera is within said synthetic skin and (2) forming an opening for the insertion into said synthetic skin of said camera and for its removal therefrom; and

wherein said synthetic skin is flexible enough to permit stretching thereof for the insertion of the camera through said synthetic skin opening, and said synthetic skin is of a thickness and elasticity to allow said function members to be operated by a user pressing the corresponding portions of said synthetic skin.

12. The combination of claim 11 , further comprising a rigid, waterproof housing that accepts said digital camera encased by said synthetic skin.

13. The combination of claim 12 , wherein said housing has means for actuating one of said camera function members.

14. The combination of claim 13 , wherein said actuating means is a spring-loaded for depressing said one camera function member through said synthetic skin.

15. The combination of claim 14 , wherein said housing comprises a front half portion and a back half portion that are hinged at one side and are releasably fastenable at the other side to create a water-tight seal.

16. The combination of claim 15 , wherein said housing back half portion has a plastic ring that presses on the perimeter of said transparent plate and hole when said front and back half portions are fastened together, to ensure a watertight fit.

17. The combination of claim 16 , wherein said housing front half portion has a soft semi-rigid hood that accepts said camera lens port in a water-tight relationship.

18. The combination of claim 17 , wherein said hood is relatively dark with respect to the color of said synthetic skin.
