Abstract

A hydrogen-absorbing alloy, which is used as a negative electrode material of nickel-metal hydride secondary batteries for hybrid electric vehicles, and particularly for batteries to drive electric motors of hybrid electric vehicles, is an AB 5 -type alloy having a CaCu 5 -type crystal structure and the general formula RNi a Co b Al c Mn d (R: mixture of rare earth metals), wherein 4.15≦a≦4.4, 0.15≦b≦0.35, 1≦c/d≦1.7, 5.25≦a+b+c+d≦5.45.

Claims (7)

1. A hydrogen-absorbing alloy for hybrid electric vehicles which is an AB 5 -type alloy having a CaCu 5 -type crystal structure, characterized by having the general formula RNi a Co b Al c Mn d (R: mixture of rare earth metals), wherein 4.15≦a≦4.4, 0.15≦b≦0.35, 1≦c/d≦1.7, 5.25≦a+b+c+d≦5.45.

2. A hydrogen-absorbing alloy for hybrid electric vehicles which is an AB 5 -type alloy having a CaCu 5 -type crystal structure, characterized by having the general formula RNi a Co b Al c Mn d (R: mixture of rare earth metals), wherein 4.15≦a≦4.4, 0.20≦b≦0.35, 1≦c/d≦1.7, 5.30≦a+b+c+d≦5.45.

3. An electrode for a nickel-metal hydride secondary battery characterized by comprising the hydrogen-absorbing alloy according to claim 1 .

4. A negative electrode for the nickel-metal hydride secondary battery which drive electric motors of hybrid electric vehicles comprising the electrode according to claim 3 , wherein the hydrogen-absorbing alloy of the electrode absorbs and discharges hydrogen for the nickel-metal hydride secondary battery.

5. A nickel-metal hydride secondary battery characterized by comprising the negative electrode according to claim 4 .

6. A drive arrangement for a hybrid electric vehicle characterized by comprising a nickel-metal hydride secondary battery according to claim 5 and an electric motor for driving the vehicle.

7. A hybrid electric vehicle characterized by comprising a drive arrangement according to claim 6 .
