Abstract

The invention refers to a supercharging system ( 6 ) for an internal combustion engine ( 1 ) incorporating in combination, a turbine ( 7 ), a compressor ( 8 ) and an electrical driven system ( 20 ) that is connected by any power transmission system ( 16, 19 ) to the crankshaft ( 4 ) or any other vehicle drive shaft of an internal combustion engine, where the turbine inlet is subjected to exhaust gases, causing the turbine wheel to rotate and thereby via the drive shaft causing mechanical rotating power.

Claims (44)

1. A supercharging system for an internal combustion engine, comprising:

a turbocharging device with a turbine and a compressor,

said turbine and said compressor connected to a compressor shaft;

a closed housing, the compressor shaft extending through the closed housing;

seals provided at lead-throughs of said closed housing for said compressor shaft;

a planetary gear set including a sun gear, planet gear wheels, and a ring gear wheel, said sun gear coupled to said compressor shaft and said ring gear wheel,

a clutch unit;

a power transmission for connecting a crankshaft of the combustion engine to said ring gear wheel via the clutch unit; and

an electric motor/generator connected to said power transmission, wherein,

the planetary gear set is located between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft, and

the supercharging system delivers compressed air to the internal combustion engine during engine operation.

2. The supercharging system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein, said planetary gear set is arranged axially of the compressor shaft between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft.

3. The supercharging system as claimed in claim 1 , wherein, said planetary gear set is arranged radially-circumferentially of the compressor shaft between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft.

4. A supercharging system for an internal combustion engine, comprising:

a turbocharging device with a turbine and a compressor;

a compressor shaft interconnecting said compressor and turbine;

a planetary gear set including a sun gear, planet gear wheels, and a ring gear wheel, said sun gear carried by said compressor shaft and said ring gear wheel,

a clutch unit;

a power transmission for connecting a crankshaft of the combustion engine to said ring gear wheel via the clutch unit;

an electric motor/generator connected to said power transmission, wherein the planetary gear set is located between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft; and

a closed housing, wherein,

the planetary gear set, the compressor shaft, and the electric motor generator are positioned in the closed housing, and

the supercharging system delivers compressed air to the internal combustion engine during engine operation, wherein seals are provided at lead-throughs of said closed housing for said compressor shaft.

5. The supercharging system as claimed in claim 4 , wherein, said planetary gear set is arranged axially of the compressor shaft between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft.

6. The supercharging system as claimed in claim 4 , wherein, said planetary gear set is arranged radially-circumferentially of the compressor shaft between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft.

7. A supercharging system for an internal combustion engine, comprising:

a turbocharging device with a turbine and a compressor,

said turbine and compressor being interconnected by a compressor shaft;

a closed housing, the compressor shaft positioned in the closed housing;

a planetary gear set including a sun gear, planet gear wheels, and a ring gear wheel, wherein,

said sun gear is carried by said compressor shaft and said ring gear wheel, and

a clutch unit;

a power transmission for connecting a crankshaft of the combustion engine to said ring gear wheel via the clutch unit;

an electric motor/generator connected to said power transmission, wherein,

the planetary gear set is located between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft, and

the supercharging system delivers compressed air to the internal combustion engine during engine operation, wherein said compressor shaft is a hollow shaft; and

seals provided at lead-throughs of said closed housing,

wherein the compressor shaft interconnecting the turbine and the compressor extends through the closed housing at said lead-throughs, and said seals provide a seal for said compressor shaft at said lead-throughs.

8. The supercharging system of claim 7 , wherein the compressor shaft floats in a magnetic field within said closed housing.

9. The supercharging system of claim 7 , further comprising magnetic clutches, said magnetic clutches coupling said compressor shaft to said compressor and to said turbine.

10. The supercharging of claim 7 , wherein said planetary gear set is positioned in said closing housing.

11. The supercharging of claim 10 , wherein said electric motor generator is positioned in the closed housing.

12. The supercharging system as claimed in claim 7 , wherein, said planetary gear set is arranged axially of the compressor shaft between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft.

13. The supercharging system as claimed in claim 7 , wherein, said planetary gear set is arranged radially-circumferentially of the compressor shaft between the electric motor/generator and the compressor shaft.
