Abstract

A display apparatus includes a conversion unit for converting first video data having a first frame rate to second video data having a second frame rate which is “n” times as high as the first frame rate (“n” being an integer of two or larger), and a display unit for displaying the second video data. When the first video data is video data of two successive frame images having different brightnesses, the conversion unit performs a first frame rate converting process for converting the first video data to the second video data by outputting a frame image group made of two successive frame images in the first video data “n” times in a row at the second frame rate. Consequently, the frame rate converting process can be performed without causing a deterioration of a visual effect such as an HDR effect, and a viewing environment comfortable for the user can be realized.

Claims (28)

1. A video processing apparatus comprising:

a conversion unit configured to convert first video data having a first frame rate to second video data having a second frame rate, wherein the second frame rate is “n” times as high as the first frame rate (“n” being an integer of two or larger); and

an output unit configured to output the second video data to a display unit,

wherein, when the first video data includes frame image groups respectively containing two successive frame images having different image characteristic parameters, the conversion unit performs a frame rate converting process for converting the first video data to the second video data by outputting each frame image group containing the two successive frame images in the first video data “n” times.

2. The video processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein, when the first frame rate is lower than a predetermined threshold, the conversion unit performs the frame rate converting process.

3. The video processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein, when the conversion unit performs the frame rate converting process, the output unit outputs a message and/or an image indicating that video data subjected to the frame rate converting process is to be displayed.

4. The video processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the conversion unit performs the frame rate converting process in response to reception of a command to start transmission of the first video data including the frame image groups respectively containing the two successive frame images having different image characteristic parameters, from a video output apparatus for outputting the first video data.

5. A video processing apparatus comprising:

a conversion unit configured to convert first video data having a first frame rate to second video data having a second frame rate, wherein the second frame rate is “n” times as high as the first frame rate (“n” being an integer of two or larger); and

an output unit configured to output the second video data to a display unit,

wherein, when the first video data includes frame image groups respectively containing two successive frame images having different image characteristic parameters, the conversion unit performs a frame rate converting process for converting the first video data to the second video data by outputting an ith (i being an integer of one or larger) frame image and an i+1th frame image in a first frame image group in order, and then, outputting an interpolation frame image generated based on ith frame image in the first frame image group and ith frame image in a second frame image group, and then, outputting an interpolation frame image generated based on i+1th frame image in the first frame image group and i+1th frame image in the second frame image group.

6. The video processing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein, when the first frame rate is lower than a predetermined threshold, the conversion unit performs the frame rate converting process.

7. The video processing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein, when the conversion unit performs the frame rate converting process, the output unit outputs a message and/or an image indicating that video data subjected to the frame rate converting process is to be displayed.

8. The video processing apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the conversion unit performs the frame rate converting process in response to reception of a command to start transmission of the first video data including frame image groups respectively containing two successive frame images having different image characteristic parameters, from a video output apparatus for outputting the first video data.

9. A video processing method of a video processing apparatus, comprising:

converting first video data having a first frame rate to second video data having a second frame rate, wherein the second frame rate is “n” times as high as the first frame rate (“n” being an integer of two or larger); and

outputting the second video data to a display unit,

wherein in the converting of the frame rate, when the first video data includes frame image groups respectively containing two successive frame images having different image characteristic parameters, a frame rate converting process for converting the first video data to the second video data is performed by outputting each frame image group containing the two successive frame images in the first video data “n” times.

10. The video processing method according to claim 9 , wherein, when the first frame rate is lower than a predetermined threshold, the step of converting is performed.

11. The video processing method according to claim 9 , wherein, when the step of converting is performed, outputting a message and/or an image indicating that video data subjected to the frame rate converting process is to be displayed.

12. The video processing method according to claim 9 , wherein the step of converting is performed in response to reception of a command to start transmission of the first video data including the frame image groups respectively containing the two successive frame images having different image characteristic parameters, from a video output apparatus for outputting the first video data.

13. A video processing method of a video processing apparatus, comprising:

converting first video data having a first frame rate to second video data having a second frame rate, wherein the second frame rate is “n” times as high as the first frame rate (“n” being an integer of two or larger); and

outputting the second video data to a display unit,

wherein in the converting of the frame rate, when the first video data includes frame image groups respectively containing two successive frame images having different image characteristic parameters, a frame rate converting process for converting the first video data to the second video data is performed by outputting an ith (i is an integer of one or larger) frame image and an i+1th frame image in a first frame image group in order, and then, outputting an interpolation frame image generated based on ith frame image in the first frame image group and ith frame image in a second frame image group, and then, outputting an interpolation frame image generated based on i+1th frame image in the first frame image group and i+1th frame image in the second frame image group.
