Abstract

The invention relates to a safe support device for a syringe, said support comprising a support sheath for the body of a syringe, and safety means which comprise an inner sheath suitable for sliding relative to said support sheath between a waiting retracted position, in which said inner sheath is substantially retracted inside said support sheath, and an active protection position, in which said inner sheath projects from said support sheath. The inner sheath has a free end portion formed by a flexible end-piece. The invention also relates to an assembly comprising such a safe support device and a syringe having a body, a piston and a needle disposed at one end of said body.

Claims (19)

1. A safety syringe assembly support system for use with a syringe comprising, in combination,

a) a first sheath having;

b) a second sheath, where the first and second sheaths are configured to move relative to each other from a start position to a final position;

c) a spring having a distal end and a proximal end, where the distal end is in abutment with the first sheath and the proximal end is in abutment with the second sheath in a pre-stressed waiting retraction position; and

d) at least two catches on the first sheath configured to engage a collar on a syringe;

wherein one of the sheaths comprises a rigid first portion and an end piece that is configured to contact a patient's skin, where the end piece is flexible, has a tapering frustoconical free end, and has a Shore hardness in the range from about 30 Hs to 80 Hs.

2. The support system of claim 1 further comprising at least two resilient tongues that are configured to cooperate with a syringe piston such that when the piston engages the tongues the first and second sheaths move relative to each other from the start position to the final position.

The support system of claim 2 further characterized in that each tongue terminates in a ramp having a first bearing surface that is configured to engage a second bearing surface on an inner periphery of a head portion of the piston at an end of stroke of the piston to cause the tongues to flex radially allowing the sheaths to move relative to each other from the start position to the final position.

4. The support system of claim 3 further comprising further characterized in that the tongues have hooks that engage the second sheath in the start position.

5. The support system of claim 1 further comprising resilient tongues extending axially in a proximal direction from one of the sheaths to engage the other sheath locking the sheaths in the start position.

6. The support system of claim 1 further comprising a two-part lock having a first part on first sheath and a second part on the second sheath, where the lock is engaged when sheaths are in the final position preventing the sheaths from moving relative to each other.

7. A method of assembling a safety syringe comprising,

a) providing a safety syringe assembly support system comprising, in combination,

i) a first sheath having;

ii) a second sheath, where the first and second sheaths are configured to move relative to each other from a start position to a final position;

iii) a spring having a distal end and a proximal end, where the distal end is in abutment with the first sheath and the proximal end is in abutment with the second sheath in a pre-stressed waiting retraction position;

iv) at least two catches on the first sheath configured to engage a collar on a syringe;

wherein one of the sheaths comprises a rigid first portion and an end piece that is configured to contact a patient's skin, where the end piece is flexible, has a tapering frustoconical free end, and has a Shore hardness in the range from about 30 Hs to 80 Hs, and

b) inserting a syringe into the first sheath to engage the catches and lock the syringe in a fixed axial position, where the syringe is pre-filled with medicament and has an injection needle covered with a cap.
