Calcium carbonate granulation
Highly compactable granulations and methods for preparing highly compactable granulations are disclosed. More particularly, highly compactable calcium carbonate granulations are disclosed. The granulations comprise powdered materials such as calcium carbonate that have small median particle sizes. The disclosed granulations are useful in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical tableting and provide smaller tablet sizes upon compression than previously available.
1. A dietary supplement tablet comprising highly compact calcium carbonate granulations to provide an amount of calcium carbonate, said tablet being about 20% to about 35% smaller in volume than a calcium supplement tablet comprising the same amount of calcium carbonate that does not contain said highly compact calcium carbonate granulations, wherein said highly compact calcium carbonate granulations, prior to compression into said tablet, have a tap density between about 1.0 and about 2.0 g/cm 3 .
2. The tablet of claim 1 , wherein the tablet is about 20% smaller than said calcium supplement tablet.
3. The tablet of claim 1 , wherein said highly compact calcium carbonate granulations comprise USP or food grade calcium carbonate powder having a median particle diameter of about 20 μm.
