Abstract

Compositions and methods for use in methods and kits for the detection of an increased risk of pancreatic cancer are provided. Cyst fluid samples isolated from patients that are positive for at least three of the following markers, mucin 1, mucin 2, mucin 5AC, mucin 5B, mucin 6, CEA CAM 1, CEACAM 5, CEACAM 6, CEACAM 7, CEACAM 8, S100-A6, S100-A8, S100-A9 and S100-A11 indicate that such patients are at greater risk for the development of pancreatic cancer when compared to cyst fluid samples isolated from patients lacking these markers.

Claims (3)

1. A collection of isolated nucleic acids encoding human proteins isolatable from pancreatic cyst fluid in a test subject which are indicative of an increased risk of pancreatic cancer, said nucleic acids consisting essentially of Mucin-5B precursor, Mucin-5AC, Mucin-1 precursor, Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5 precursor, Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 6 precursor, Tetraspanin-8, Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin precursor, Anterior gradient protein 2 homolog precursor, Protein S100-A11, and Protein S100-A6, said nucleic acids being affixed to a solid support.

2. A collection of isolated biomarker proteins present in pancreatic cyst fluid, which are indicative of an increased risk for pancreatic cancer, said proteins being affixed to a solid support, said collection comprising Mucin-5B precursor, Mucin-5AC, Mucin-1 precursor, Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5 precursor, Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 6 precursor, Tetraspanin-8, Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin precursor, Anterior gradient protein 2 homolog precursor, Protein S100-A11, and Protein S100-A6.

3. A collection of isolated biomarker proteins isolatable from a sample of pancreas cyst fluid obtained from a patient consisting of Mucin 5B precursor, Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5 precursor, Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 6 precursor, Tetraspanin-8, and Anterior gradient protein 2 homolog precursor which are indicative of an increased risk of pancreatic cancer, and a collection of antibodies immunologically specific for said biomarker proteins and reagents effective for assessing immune complex formation between said antibodies and said proteins.
