Abstract

A composition of matter includes at least one carbon nanotube (CNT) or a graphene type structure having an outer surface, and a plurality of crystalline polymer supramolecular structures that include a conjugated polymer that are non-covalently secured to the outer surface of the CNTs or the graphene type structure. The conjugated polymer can be a conjugated homopolymer or a block copolymer including at least one conjugated block. The supramolecular structures extend outward from the outer surface of the CNTs or graphene type structures.

at least one carbon nanotube (CNT) or a graphene comprising structure having an outer surface, and

a plurality of crystalline polymer supramolecular structures comprising at least a portion including a conjugated polymer non-covalently secured to said outer surface of said CNTs or said graphene comprising structure,

wherein said supramolecular structures have an average length which extends outward in a length direction from said outer surface of said CNT or said graphene comprising structure, said average length being greater than an average width of said supramolecular structures.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said conjugated polymer comprises a conjugated homopolymer or block copolymer comprising at least one block of said conjugated polymer and at least one block of a non-conjugated polymer.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said polymer supramolecular structures comprise nanocolumns, nanoribbons or nanofibers.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said at least one CNT or said graphene comprising structure comprises a plurality of said CNTs or a plurality of said graphene comprising structures, and wherein said polymer supramolecular structures non-covalently couple and electrically couple at least a portion of respective ones of said plurality of CNTs or said plurality of said graphene comprising structures together.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said graphene comprising structure comprises pristine graphene, chemically derived graphene, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) or graphene oxide (GO).

6. The composition of claim 5 , wherein said graphene, said chemically derived graphene, said RGO or said GO are in a form of nanosheets.

7. An electronic device, comprising:

a first and second electrode spaced apart from one another, and a composition of matter comprising:

at least one carbon nanotube (CNT) or a graphene comprising structure having an outer surface, and

a plurality of crystalline polymer supramolecular structures comprising at least a portion including a conjugated polymer non-covalently secured to said outer surface of said CNTs or said graphene comprising structure,

wherein said supramolecular structures have an average length which extends outward in a length direction from said outer surface of said CNT or said graphene comprising structure, said average length being greater than an average width of said supramolecular structures,

wherein said composition of matter is between said first and second electrodes.

8. The electronic device of claim 7 , wherein said electronic device comprises an organic photovoltaic (OPV) device, one of said first and second electrodes comprises and optically transparent material and said CNT or said graphene comprising structure is an electron acceptor and said supramolecular structure functions as an electron donor.

9. The electronic device of claim 7 , wherein said electronic device comprises a supercapacitor including a separator, a capacitor, or a battery including a separator.

10. The electronic device of claim 7 , wherein polymer supramolecular structures comprise nanocolumns, nanoribbons or nanofibers.
