Abstract

In a spring-loaded curtain mount, the mount includes a pole interface at a proximal end, a compressive mechanism, and a head at a distal end. The pole interface is adapted to receive the end of a standard length adjustable pole or a painter's pole. The compression mechanism is disposed between the proximal end of the mount and the head. The mount includes a coupling device adapted to receive a portion of a curtain. During installation, the curtain mount is coupled to the end of an extension pole and the length of the pole is adjusted such that the combined length of the pole and mount is slightly longer than the distance between the floor and ceiling. At ground level, a portion of the curtain is attached to the head of the curtain mount. The curtain and mount are raised to the ceiling and the mount and pole are compressed between the floor and the ceiling. This compressive force operates to urge the head toward the ceiling, securing the mount in place.

Claims (18)

1. A mounting system to be installed between first and second surfaces of a room, comprising:

a pole having proximal and distal ends, the pole comprising an extension pole having multiple telescoping segments such that the extension pole is length-adjustable;

a foot at the proximal end of the pole and constructed and arranged to engage a first surface of the room;

a coupling mechanism at the distal end of the pole, wherein the coupling mechanism extends in a direction that is transverse to a longitudinal axis of the pole and wherein the coupling mechanism includes a head that is coupled to the pole and a clip that is removably coupled to the head, the clip and head having opposed mating surfaces;

a pad of high friction material at an upper surface of the clip constructed and arranged to engage a second surface of a room;

a compression mechanism between the foot and the coupling mechanism, comprising:

a displacement rod;

a stopper; and

a spring; and

a universal joint that couples the displacement rod to the head;

wherein the compression mechanism biases the position of the coupling mechanism in an outward direction away from the stopper.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the universal joint comprises a ball and socket.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the displacement rod comprises the ball and the head comprises the socket.

4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising an upper stopper through which the displacement rod extends and that constrains movement of the displacement rod in the outward direction.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the upper surface of the head is substantially planar over a majority of its surface area.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the head is substantially rectangular.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the spring and stopper permit travel of the displacement rod between a first position at which the compression mechanism is under a first compression and a second position at which the compression mechanism is under a compression amount less than the first compression.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the foot comprises a soft friction material.
