Abstract

A method of processing broadcast data in a broadcast transmitting system includes Reed-Solomon (RS) encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check encoding an RS frame payload including mobile service data to build an RS frame, wherein the RS frame payload comprises a plurality of mobile and handheld transport packets; first encoding data of the RS frame with a first encoding code; second encoding signaling data with a second encoding code, wherein the signaling data include fast information channel (FIC) data and transmission parameter channel (TPC) data, the FIC data including information for rapid mobile service acquisition and the TPC data including a parade identifier for identifying a parade to which a current data group belongs; mapping the first encoded data into data groups and adding known data sequences and the second encoded signaling data to each of the data groups; and transmitting a transmission frame including data of the data groups.

Claims (26)

1. A method of processing broadcast data in a broadcast transmitting system, the method comprising:

Reed-Solomon (RS) encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) encoding an RS frame payload including mobile service data to build an RS frame, wherein the RS frame payload comprises a plurality of mobile and handheld (M/H) transport packets, wherein each M/H transport packet includes an M-byte header, k bytes of stuffing data and an (N-M-k)-byte payload, wherein the header includes stuffing indication information indicating whether the stuffing data are included in the M/H transport packet, and wherein N and M are integers and k is equal to or greater than 0;

first encoding data of the RS frame with a first encoding code;

second encoding signaling data with a second encoding code, wherein the signaling data include fast information channel (FIC) data and transmission parameter channel (TPC) data, and wherein the FIC data include information for rapid mobile service acquisition and the TPC data include a parade identifier for identifying a parade to which a current data group belongs;

mapping the first encoded data into data groups and adding known data sequences and the second encoded signaling data to each of the data groups; and

transmitting a transmission frame including data of the data groups.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the header of the M/H transport packet further includes pointer field information indicating a start location of a new IP datagram following an IP datagram of the mobile service data in the payload of the M/H transport packet.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein a length of the stuffing data is 1 byte when a value of a first data byte next to the pointer field information is 0xFF.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein a length of the stuffing data is 2 bytes when values of first and second data bytes next to the pointer field information are 0xFE and 0xFF, respectively.

5. The method of claim 2 , wherein a length of the stuffing data is determined based on values of first and second data bytes next to the pointer field information when the value of the first data byte is not 0xFF or the values of the first and second data bytes are not 0xFE and 0xFF, respectively.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the M/H transport packet comprises the header and the payload only, when the stuffing indication information indicates that the stuffing data are not included in the M/H transport packet.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the header of the M/H transport packet further includes error indication information indicating whether the M/H transport packet contains an error.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first encoding code is a Serial Concatenated Convolutional Code (SCCC) and the second encoding code is a Parallel Concatenated Convolutional Code (PCCC).

9. A broadcast transmitting system comprising:

a Reed-Solomon (RS) frame encoder for RS encoding and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) encoding an RS frame payload including mobile service data to build an RS frame, wherein the RS frame payload comprises a plurality of mobile and handheld (M/H) transport packets, wherein each M/H transport packet includes an M-byte header, k bytes of stuffing data and an (N-M-k)-byte payload, wherein the header includes stuffing indication information indicating whether the stuffing data are included in the M/H transport packet, and wherein N and M are integers and k is equal to or greater than 0;

a block processor for first encoding data of the RS frame with a first encoding code;

a signaling encoder for second encoding signaling data with a second encoding code, wherein the signaling data include fast information channel (FIC) data and transmission parameter channel (TPC) data, and wherein the FIC data include information for rapid mobile service acquisition and the TPC data include a parade identifier for identifying a parade to which a current data group belongs;

a group formatter for mapping the first encoded data into data groups and adding known data sequences and the second encoded signaling data to each of the data groups; and

a transmitting unit for transmitting a transmission frame including data of the data groups.

10. The broadcast transmitting system of claim 9 , wherein the header of the M/H transport packet further includes pointer field information indicating a start location of a new IP datagram following an IP datagram of the mobile service data in the payload of the M/H transport packet.

11. The broadcast transmitting system of claim 10 , wherein a length of the stuffing data is 1 byte when a value of a first data byte next to the pointer field information is 0xFF.

12. The broadcast transmitting system of claim 10 , wherein a length of the stuffing data is 2 bytes when values of first and second data bytes next to the pointer field information are 0xFE and 0xFF, respectively.

13. The broadcast transmitting system of claim 10 , wherein a length of the stuffing data is determined based on values of first and second data bytes next to the pointer field information when the value of the first data byte is not 0xFF or the values of the first and second data bytes are not 0xFE and 0xFF, respectively.
