Voice rendering of E-mail with tags for improved user experience
Tags, such as XML tags, are inserted into email to separate email content from signature blocks, privacy notices and confidentiality notices, and to separate original email messages from replies and replies from further replies. The tags are detected by a system that renders email as speech, such as voice command platform or network-based virtual assistant or message center. The system can render an original email message in one voice mode and the reply in a different voice mode. The tags can be inserted to identify a voice memo in which a user responds to a particular portion of an email message.
1. A method of allowing a recipient of an email message from a source to respond to said email message via voice, the method comprising:
rendering said email message to said recipient as speech;
as said email message is being rendered as speech, receiving a signal from said recipient indicating the recipient intends to respond to a particular part of said email message by inserting a voice memo at a particular location in said email message indicated by said recipient;
receiving said voice memo from said recipient, wherein said voice memo comprises voice-memo content;
storing said voice memo;
inserting a tag into said email message at said particular location indicated by said recipient, wherein said tag indicates that said voice memo is inserted in said email message at said particular location; and
providing said voice-memo content to said source at said particular location indicated by said recipient.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said signal comprises a Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) tone.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said signal comprises a voice command.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said voice memo is stored with a hyperlink that points to a storage location containing said voice memo.
5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising rendering said voice-memo content as speech to said recipient; and
prompting said recipient to indicate whether to change said voice memo.
6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
after receiving said voice memo, prompting said recipient to indicate whether to continue with the rendering of said email message as speech.
7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
after prompting said recipient to indicate whether to continue with the rendering of said email message as speech, receiving an indication from said recipient to continue with the rendering of said email message as speech; and
continuing with the rendering of said email as speech.
8. The method of claim 7 ,
as said email message is continued to be rendered as speech, receiving a second signal from said recipient indicating the recipient intends to respond to a second particular part of said email message by inserting a second voice memo at a second particular location in said email message indicated by said recipient;
receiving said second voice memo from said recipient, wherein said second voice memo comprises second voice-memo content;
storing said second voice memo;
inserting a second tag into said email message at said second particular location indicated by said recipient; and
providing said second-voice-memo content to said source at said second particular location indicated by said recipient.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein providing said voice-memo content to said source comprises rendering said voice-memo content as speech to said source.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein rendering said voice-memo content as speech to said source comprises rendering said voice-memo content as speech in a first voice mode, the method further comprising:
rendering a remainder of content of the email message as speech to said source, wherein rendering said remainder of content of said email message as speech to said source comprises rendering said remainder of content as speech in a second voice mode, wherein said first voice mode is different than said second voice mode.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein providing said voice-memo content to said source comprises providing said voice-memo content as text to said source.
12. A method of allowing a recipient of an email message from a source to respond to said email message via voice, the method comprising:
rendering said email message to said recipient as speech;
as said email message is being rendered as speech, receiving a signal from said recipient indicating the recipient intends to respond to a particular part of said email message by inserting a voice memo at a particular location in said email message indicated by said recipient;
receiving said voice memo from said recipient, wherein said voice memo comprises voice-memo content;
storing said voice memo; and
inserting a tag into said email message at said particular location in said email message indicated by said recipient, wherein said tag indicates that said voice memo is inserted in said email message at said particular location.
13. The method of claim 12 , wherein said signal comprises a Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) tone.
14. The method of claim 12 , wherein said signal comprises a voice command.
15. The method of claim 12 , wherein said voice memo is stored with a hyperlink that points to a storage location containing said voice memo.
16. The method of claim 12 , further comprising rendering said voice-memo content as speech to said recipient; and
prompting said recipient to indicate whether to change said voice memo.
17. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:
after receiving said voice memo, prompting said recipient to indicate whether to continue with the rendering of said email message as speech.
18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising:
after prompting said recipient to indicate whether to continue with the rendering of said email message as speech, receiving an indication from said recipient to continue with the rendering of said email message as speech; and
continuing with the rendering of said email as speech.
