Abstract

The present invention relates to compositions and methods for the treatment of the Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and related peripheral neuropathies. More particularly, the invention relates to combined therapies for treating said disease by affecting simultaneously muscarinic receptor signaling and thyroid hormone pathway in a subject.

Claims (24)

1. A method of treating Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease in a subject in need thereof comprising the administration to said subject of a combination product or composition comprising:

(i) pilocarpine or a salt thereof;

(ii) methimazole, carbimazole, or a salt thereof; and

(iii) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said combination product comprises:

a) a salt of methimazole and a salt of pilocarpine;

b) a salt of methimazole and pilocarpine;

c) methimizole and pilocarpine;

d) methimizole and a salt of pilocarpine;

e) carbimazole and pilocarpine;

f) carbimazole and a salt of pilocarpine;

g) a salt of carbimazole and pilocarpine; or

h) a salt of carbimazole and a salt of pilocarpine.

3. The method of claim 1 , said combination product or composition further comprising at least one additional active compound.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein said at least one additional active compound is selected from baclofen, mifepristone, sorbitol, naltrexone, rapamycin, ketoprofen or flurbiprofen, or salts thereof.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said at least one additional compound is baclofen or mifepristone, or salts thereof.

6. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises a salt of methimazole and a salt of pilocarpine.

7. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises a salt of methimazole and pilocarpine.

8. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises methimizole and pilocarpine.

9. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises methimizole and a salt of pilocarpine.

10. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises carbimazole and pilocarpine.

11. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises carbimazole and a salt of pilocarpine.

12. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises a salt of carbimazole and pilocarpine.

13. The method of claim 2 , wherein said combination product comprises a salt of carbimazole and a salt of pilocarpine.
