Abstract

Methods and systems including non-transitory computer-readable storage media, for selectively erasing data stored at a wireless device are disclosed. The media include instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method including comparing a particular service provider identified by the data stored at the wireless device to at least one favored service provider selected from a group of favored service providers consisting of a home service provider and a preferred service provider other than the home service provider. The instructions further, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to erase, if the particular service provider is not one of the favored service providers, the data stored at the wireless device.

Claims (37)

1. A computer-readable storage device, for selectively erasing particular-service-provider data stored at a wireless device, comprising instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

comparing a particular service provider identified by the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device to a favored service provider selected from a group consisting of a home service provider and a preferred service provider other than the home service provider; and

erasing, if the particular service provider is not the favored service provider, the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device;

wherein the operations of comparing and erasing are performed automatically in response to powering up of the wireless device.

2. The computer-readable storage device of claim 1 , wherein the particular service provider is a most-recently-used service provider for the wireless device.

3. The computer-readable storage device of claim 1 , wherein the operation of erasing comprises erasing the particular-service-provider data from a subscriber identity module located at the wireless device.

4. The computer-readable storage device of claim 1 , wherein the computer-readable storage device is selected from a group consisting of:

a subscriber identity module connected to the wireless device; and

a memory of the wireless device.

5. The computer-readable storage device of claim 1 , wherein the computer-readable storage device is a component of a wireless network with which the wireless device communicates selectively.

6. The computer-readable storage device of claim 5 , wherein the operation of erasing comprises sending, from the wireless network, to the wireless device, an instruction instructing the wireless device to erase the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device.

7. A method, for selectively erasing particular-service-provider data stored at a wireless device, comprising:

comparing, by a component having a processor, a particular service provider identified by the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device to a favored service provider selected from a group consisting of a home service provider and a preferred service provider other than the home service provider; and

erasing, by the component, if the particular service provider is not the favored service provider, the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device;

wherein the comparing and the erasing are performed automatically by the component in response to powering up of the wireless device.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the comparing, by the component, is performed by executing a program stored at a module selected from a group consisting of:

a subscriber identity module connected to the wireless device; and

a memory module of the wireless device.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein erasing, by the component, the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device comprises erasing the information from a module selected from a group consisting of:

a subscriber identity module at the wireless device; and

a memory module of the wireless communication device.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the comparing, by the component, is performed by the component being a part of a wireless network to which the wireless device communicates selectively.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the component is a part of the wireless communication device and the erasing is performed in response to an instruction received, from a wireless network to which the wireless device communicates selectively, by the wireless device, wherein the instruction instructs the wireless device to erase the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the particular service provider is a most-recently-used service provider for the wireless device.

13. A system, for selectively erasing particular-service-provider data stored at a wireless device, comprising:

a processor; and

a computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

comparing a particular service provider identified by the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device to a favored service provider selected from a group consisting of a home service provider and a preferred service provider other than the home service provider; and

erasing, if the particular service provider is not the favored service provider, the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device;

wherein the operations of comparing and erasing are performed automatically in response to powering up of the wireless device.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the computer-readable storage medium is a storage component selected from a group consisting of:

a subscriber identity module at the wireless device;

a memory of the wireless device; and

a component of a wireless network with which the wireless device communicates selectively.

15. The computer-readable storage device of claim 1 , wherein the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device includes roaming particular-service-provider data comprising a location-updating status parameter and an indication of the preferred service provider.

16. The method of claim 7 , wherein the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device includes roaming data comprising a location-updating status parameter and an indication of the preferred service provider.

17. The system of claim 13 , wherein the particular-service-provider data stored at the wireless device includes roaming data comprising a location-updating status parameter and an indication of the preferred service provider.
