Abstract

Embodiments related to systems and methods comprising receiving payment data at an access device; receiving an identifier for a phone at the access device; and generating and sending an authorization request message to a payment processing network, wherein the payment processing network generates a verification token, which is then sent to the phone whereby the phone is thereafter used to conduct payment transactions.

Claims (17)

1. A method comprising:

receiving payment card data comprising a payment card number at an access device;

receiving an identifier for a phone at the access device;

generating, by the access device, a first authorization request message comprising the payment card data and the identifier for the phone;

sending, by the access device, a first authorization request message to a server computer associated with a payment processing network, wherein the server computer includes a processor and a memory with instructions being executed by the processor, the instructions including

generating a verification token, wherein the verification token indicates that subsequent transactions conducted by the phone are to be processed as card present transactions by the server computer, and

sending the verification token to the phone, which stores the verification token in the phone,

whereby the phone is thereafter used to conduct payment transactions, wherein the payment transactions are processed as card present transactions; and

receiving, by the access device and from the phone, the payment card number and the verification token in a payment transaction;

generating, by the access device, a second authorization request message comprising the payment card number, the verification token and a purchase price for the payment transaction to the server computer; and

sending, by the access device and during the payment transaction, the second authorization request message to the server computer,

wherein the instructions further include analyzing the second authorization request message comprising the payment card number, the verification token, and the purchase price and performing card present processing on the payment transaction after determining that the verification token is present in the second authorization request message.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the identifier for the phone is a phone number, and wherein the phone number and the payment card number are stored and linked in a database coupled to the server computer.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the verification token is static.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the verification token is dynamic.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the verification token is associated with only one merchant.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the access device is a point of sale terminal.
