Abstract

This invention relates to soluble forms of G glycoprotein from Hendra and Nipah virus. In particular, this invention relates to compositions comprising soluble forms of G glycoprotein from Hendra and Nipah virus and also to diagnostic and therapeutic methods using the soluble forms of G glycoprotein from Hendra and Nipah virus. Further, the invention relates to therapeutic antibodies including neutralizing antibodies, and vaccines for the prevention and treatment of infection by Hendra and Nipah viruses.

Claims (7)

1. A method of preventing infection by a Nipah virus in a subject comprising administering to said subject a composition comprising an isolated oligomeric peptide wherein the monomers of the oligomeric peptide consist of the ectodomain of the Hendra virus G protein with an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 16 or a sequence at least 90% identical to SEQ ID NO: 16.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the isolated oligomeric peptide retains one or more characteristics of a native Hendra virus G protein.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the oligomeric peptide is linked to another peptide.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the another peptide is derived from vaccinia virus.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the oligomeric peptide is a dimer.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the oligomeric peptide is a tetramer.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises an adjuvant.
