Abstract

A rodent trap is provided having an entrapment pad formed of a nonwoven material substrate and a quantity of pressure sensitive adhesive of a rodent arresting quantity applied directly or indirectly through the substrate. The quantity of rodent arresting adhesive is sufficient to restrain movement of a rodent that becomes trapped in the entrapment pad.

Claims (24)

1. A pest trap comprising:

a pad formed of a highloft nonwoven material constructed of fibers and defining a three-dimensional capture area of the pad between a top surface and a bottom surface thereof, wherein at least some of the fibers extend in a manner such that they are non-parallel to each other and cross each other; and

a quantity of tacky, non-drying pressure sensitive adhesive disposed throughout the three-dimensional capture area of the pad in a three-dimensional and spaced-apart spray pattern, wherein the quantity of adhesive comprises droplets disposed at discrete locations along the lengths of the fibers;

wherein the accumulation of adhesive from the pad adhering against a pest increases with pest movement in a direction from an initial contact with the top surface of the pad toward the bottom surface.

2. The pest trap of claim 1 , wherein the strength required by the pest to free itself increases with pest movement in a direction from an initial contact with the top surface of the pad toward the bottom surface.

3. The pest trap of claim 1 , wherein the quantity of pressure sensitive adhesive is sufficient to restrain free movement of a rodent that becomes trapped in the pad.

4. The pest trap of claim 1 , wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive is applied through the pad via controlled fiberization spraying of the adhesive.

5. The pest trap of claim 1 , wherein the highloft nonwoven material further comprises a highloft nonwoven material matrix of loft depth greater than ⅛″.

6. A pest trap comprising:

a pad formed of a highloft nonwoven material constructed of fibers and defining a three-dimensional capture area of the pad between a top surface and a bottom surface thereof, wherein at least some of the fibers extend in a manner such that they are non-parallel to each other and cross each other; and

a quantity of tacky, non-drying pressure sensitive adhesive disposed throughout the three-dimensional capture area of the pad in a three-dimensional and spaced-apart spray pattern, wherein the quantity of the adhesive comprises droplets disposed at discrete locations along lengths of the fibers;

wherein the top surface of the pad has more air than non-woven material;

wherein the capture surface area of the pad against a pest increases as the pest advances through the three-dimensional capture area of the pad in a direction from the top surface toward the bottom surface.

7. The pest trap of claim 6 wherein the pest is a rodent.

8. The pest trap of claim 6 wherein the pest is an insect.

9. The pest trap of claim 6 wherein the pest arrested within the pad contacts adhesive remotely disposed at an intermediate position between the top surface and the bottom surface.

10. A pest trap comprising:

a pad formed of a highloft nonwoven material constructed of fibers and defining a three-dimensional capture area of the pad between a top surface and a bottom surface thereof, wherein at least some of the fibers extend in a manner such that they are non-parallel to each other and cross each other; and

a quantity of tacky, non-drying pressure sensitive adhesive disposed throughout the three-dimensional capture area of the pad in a three-dimensional and spaced-apart spray pattern, wherein the quantity of the adhesive comprises droplets disposed at discrete locations along lengths of the fibers;

wherein the top surface of the pad has more air than non-woven material;

wherein the capture surface area of the pad against a pest increases with pest movement in a direction from an initial contact with the top surface of the pad toward the bottom surface.

11. The pest trap of claim 10 , wherein the quantity of pressure sensitive adhesive is sufficient to restrain free movement of a rodent that becomes trapped in the pad.

12. The pest trap of claim 10 , wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive is applied through substrate via controlled fiberization spraying of the adhesive.

13. The pest trap of claim 10 , wherein the highloft nonwoven material further comprises a highloft nonwoven material matrix of loft depth greater than ⅛″.
