Abstract

A method and apparatus for capturing and recording blur-free images by detecting the motion of the imaging device and the subject of the image and adjusting the image sensor and one or more lens elements to compensate for the motion. The combined optical correction and adjusted image sensor provides blur-free images that are recorded in a memory.

Claims (43)

1. A digital imaging apparatus configured to capture and record a blur-corrected digital image, comprising:

one or more sensors, wherein one or more of the sensors are configured to detect motion of the digital imaging apparatus, and one or more of the sensors are configured to detect a subject of an image;

a lens comprising one or more lens elements, wherein one or more of the lens elements are movable relative to the digital imaging apparatus;

an image sensor configured to capture image data that represents the image, wherein the image sensor is movable inside the digital imaging apparatus;

an image sensor adjuster configured to move the one or more of the lens elements and the image sensor in response to detected motion of the digital imaging apparatus and the subject; and

a memory configured to record a blur-corrected image captured by the digital imaging apparatus.

2. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the digital imaging apparatus is a digital camera.

3. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the digital imaging apparatus is a digital video recorder.

4. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the image sensor adjuster is an electromagnet.

5. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the image sensor adjuster is a servo.

6. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the image sensor includes a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) or a Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) sensor.

7. A method for capturing and recording a blur-corrected image, implemented in a digital imaging apparatus that includes one or more sensors, one or more movable lens elements, an image sensor, an image sensor adjuster, and a memory, the method comprising:

detecting, by one or more sensors, motion of the digital imaging apparatus;

detecting, by one or more sensors, a subject of an image;

moving, by the image sensor adjuster, the one or more movable lens elements and the image sensor in response to detected motion of the digital imaging apparatus and the subject; and

recording, in the memory, by the image sensor, image data that represents a blur-corrected image.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the digital imaging apparatus is a digital camera.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the digital imaging apparatus is a digital video recorder.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the image sensor adjuster is an electromagnet.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the image sensor adjuster is a servo.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the image sensor includes a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) or a Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) sensor.

13. A digital imaging apparatus for capturing and recording a blur-corrected digital image, comprising:

one or more sensors configured to measure motion of the digital imaging apparatus, to detect a subject of an image, and to generate control data based on the measured motion and the detected subject of the image;

a lens comprising one or more lens elements, wherein one or more of the lens elements are movable relative to the digital imaging apparatus;

an image sensor configured to capture in a memory image data that represents the image, wherein the image sensor is movable inside the digital imaging apparatus;

an image sensor adjuster configured to move the one or more lens elements and the image sensor in response to the control data from the one or more sensors; and

a memory configured to record a blur-corrected image captured by the digital imaging apparatus.

14. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the digital imaging apparatus is a digital camera.

15. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the digital imaging apparatus is a digital video recorder.

16. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the image sensor adjuster is an electromagnet.

17. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the image sensor adjuster is a servo.

18. The digital imaging apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the image sensor includes a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) or a Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) sensor.

19. A method for capturing and recording a blur-corrected image, implemented in an apparatus that includes an image sensor, one or more sensors, an image sensor adjuster, and a memory, the method comprising:

detecting, by the one or more sensors, a subject of the image in the image data;

measuring, by the one or more sensors, motion of the apparatus;

generating, by the one or more sensors control signals based on the detected subject of the image and the measured motion of the apparatus;

moving, by the image sensor adjuster, the image sensor relative to the apparatus based on the generated control signals; and

recording, in the memory, by the image sensor, image data that represents an image.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the digital imaging apparatus is a digital camera.
