Abstract

Disclosed are various exemplary embodiments of a lock for a ground engaging tool. The lock may include a head portion having a tool interface configured to receive a tool for applying torque about a lock rotation axis and a C-shaped portion extending from the head portion and defining a lock slot for receiving a portion of a support member to be locked with the ground engaging tool. The C-shaped portion may include an outer surface configured to be rotatably received in an inner surface of a retainer bushing. The head portion may include a wall extending in a plane substantially perpendicular to the lock rotation axis. The wall may include a first surface from which the tool interface extends, a second surface, opposite the first surface, from which the C-shaped portion extends, and a through-hole having a first end opening out to the tool interface and a second end opening out to the lock slot defined by the C-shaped portion.

Claims (39)

1. A lock for a ground engaging tool, comprising:

a head portion having a tool interface configured to receive a tool for applying torque about a lock rotation axis;

a C-shaped portion extending from the head portion and defining a lock slot for receiving a portion of a support member to be locked with the ground engaging tool, the C-shaped portion including an outer surface configured to be rotatably received in an inner surface of a retainer bushing,

wherein the head portion includes a wall extending in a plane substantially perpendicular to the lock rotation axis, the wall including:

a first surface from which the tool interface extends;

a second surface, opposite the first surface, from which the C-shaped portion extends; and

a through-hole having a first end opening out to the tool nterface and a second end opening out to the lock slot defined by the C-shaped portion; and

a detent formed on the outer surface of the C-shaped portion and configured to engage a detent of the retainer bushing.

2. The lock of claim 1 , wherein the outer surface of the C-shaped portion is substantially concentric with and extends circumferentially around the lock rotation axis.

3. The lock of claim 1 , wherein the outer surface of the C-shaped portion extends at an angle with respect to the lock rotation axis.

4. The lock of claim 1 , wherein the detent of the C-shaped portion includes a first detent recess and a second detent recess spaced apart from one another by approximately 180 degrees.

The lock of claim 4 , wherein the C-shaped portion includes an open end between circumferential ends of the C-shaped portion, and wherein the first detent recess faces in a first direction substantially perpendicular to a direction of the open end, and the second detent recess faces in a second direction substantially opposite the first direction.

6. The lock of claim 1 , wherein the tool interface comprises a socket recess configured to receive a socket driver.

7. The lock of claim 1 , wherein the tool interface extends along the lock rotation axis.

8. A retainer system for a ground engaging tool, comprising:

a retainer bushing including:

an outer surface configured to mate with a lock cavity of the ground engaging tool; and

an inner surface opposite the outer surface; and

a lock including:

a head portion having a tool interface configured to receive a tool for applying torque about a lock rotation axis; and

a C-shaped portion extending from the head portion and defining a lock slot for receiving a portion of a support member to be locked with the ground engaging tool, the C-shaped portion including an outer surface configured to be rotatably received in the inner surface of the retainer bushing,

wherein the head portion includes a wall extending in a plane substantially perpendicular to the lock rotation axis, the wall including:

a first surface from which the tool interface extends;

a second surface, opposite the first surface, from which the C-shaped portion extends; and

a through-hole having a first end opening out to the tool interface and a second end opening out to the lock slot defined by the C-shaped portion.

9. The retainer system of claim 8 , wherein the outer surface of the C-shaped portion is substantially concentric with and extends circumferentially around the lock rotation axis.

10. The retainer system of claim 8 , wherein the outer surface of the C-shaped portion extends at an angle with respect to the lock rotation axis.

11. The retainer system of claim 8 , further comprising a detent formed on the outer surface of the C-shaped portion and configured to engage a detent of the retainer bushing.

12. The retainer system of claim 11 , wherein the detent of the C-shaped portion includes a first detent recess and a second detent recess spaced apart from one another by approximately 180 degrees.

13. The retainer system of claim 12 , wherein the C-shaped portion includes an open end between circumferential ends of the C-shaped portion, and wherein the first detent recess faces in a first direction substantially perpendicular to a direction of the open end, and the second detent recess faces in a second direction substantially opposite the first direction.

14. The retainer system of claim 8 , wherein the tool interface comprises a socket recess configured to receive a socket driver.

15. The retainer system of claim 8 , wherein the tool interface extends along the lock rotation axis.

16. A lock for a ground engaging tool, comprising:

a head portion including a wall having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, the head portion including a tool interface extending from the first surface of the wall;

a C-shaped portion extending at an angle from the second surface of the wall and defining a lock slot for receiving a portion of a support member to be locked with the ground engaging tool, the C-shaped portion including an outer surface configured to be rotatably received in an inner surface of a retainer bushing; and

a detent formed on the outer surface of the C-shaped portion andd configured to engage a detent of the retainer bushing,

wherein the wall including a through-hole having a first end opening out to the tool interface and a second end opening out to the lock slot defined by the C-shaped portion.

17. The lock of claim 16 , wherein the wall extends in a plane substantially perpendicular to a lock rotation axis.

18. The lock of claim 16 , wherein the tool interface comprises a socket recess configured to receive a socket driver, the socket recess being substantially aligned with a lock rotation axis.
