Abstract

A method for transmitting a reference signal in a multi-antenna system is provided. The method includes: selecting at least one orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol in a subframe containing a plurality of OFDM symbols; allocating a channel quality indication reference signal (CQI RS) capable of measuring a channel state for each of a plurality of antennas to the selected at least one OFDM symbol; and transmitting the CQI RS, wherein the CQI RS is allocated to an OFDM symbol which does not overlap with an OFDM symbol to which a common reference signal to be transmitted to all user equipments in a cell or a dedicated reference signal to be transmitted to a specific user equipment in the cell is allocated.

Claims (36)

1. A method for transmitting a reference signal in a multi-antenna system, the method comprising:

allocating at least one reference signal in a subframe containing a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols; and

transmitting the allocated at least one reference signal,

wherein each of the at least one reference signal is allocated to a total of two resource elements in two OFDM symbols of the subframe, and

wherein when reference signals are transmitted on eight antennas, a reference signal for a first antenna and a reference signal for a second antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a first frequency in the two OFDM symbols, a reference signal for a third antenna and a reference signal for a fourth antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a second frequency in the two OFDM symbols, a reference signal for a fifth antenna and a reference signal for a sixth antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a third frequency in the two OFDM symbols, and a reference signal for a seventh antenna and a reference signal for an eighth antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a fourth frequency in the two OFDM symbols.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the two resource elements having a first frequency and the two resource elements having a third frequency are consecutive in a frequency domain.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the two resource elements having a second frequency and the two resource elements having a fourth frequency are consecutive in a frequency domain.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the two resource elements having a second frequency and the two resource elements having a third frequency are separated in a frequency domain.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein two reference signals for two antennas are transmitted through same two resource elements and the two reference signals transmitted through the same two resource elements are identified by codes which are different from each other.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the two OFDM symbols are consecutive in time domain.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein a reference signal for one antenna is transmitted through two resource elements, which have same frequency, in the two OFDM symbols.

8. A method for receiving a reference signal in a multi-antenna system, the method comprising:

receiving at least one reference signal in a subframe containing a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols,

wherein each of the at least one reference signal is allocated to a total of two resource elements in two OFDM symbols of the subframe, and

wherein when reference signals, being transmitted on eight antennas, are received, a reference signal for a first antenna and a reference signal for a second antenna are received through same two resource elements having a first frequency in the two OFDM symbols, a reference signal for a third antenna and a reference signal for a fourth antenna are received through same two resource elements having a second frequency in the two OFDM symbols, a reference signal for a fifth antenna and a reference signal for a sixth antenna are received through same two resource elements having a third frequency in the two OFDM symbols, and a reference signal for a seventh antenna and a reference signal for an eighth antenna are received through same two resource elements having a fourth frequency in the two OFDM symbols.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the two resource elements having a first frequency and the two resource elements having a third frequency are consecutive in a frequency domain.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the two resource elements having a second frequency and the two resource elements having a fourth frequency are consecutive in a frequency domain.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the two resource elements having a second frequency and the two resource elements having a third frequency are separated in a frequency domain.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein two reference signals for two antennas are received through same two resource elements and the two reference signals for two antennas are identified by codes which are different from each other.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the two OFDM symbols are consecutive in time domain.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein a reference signal for one antenna is received through two resource elements, which have same frequency, in the two OFDM symbols.

15. An apparatus, the apparatus comprising:

a plurality of antennas; and

a processor coupled with the plurality of antennas,

wherein the processor is configured to:

allocate at least one reference signal in a subframe containing a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols; and

transmit the allocated at least one reference signal,

wherein each of the at least one reference signal is allocated to a total of two resource elements in two OFDM symbols of the subframe, and

wherein when 8 reference signals are transmitted on eight antennas, a reference signal for a first antenna and a reference signal for a second antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a first frequency in the two OFDM symbols, a reference signal for a third antenna and a reference signal for a fourth antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a second frequency in the two OFDM symbols, a reference signal for a fifth and a reference signal for a sixth antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a third frequency in the two OFDM symbols, and a reference signal for a seventh and a reference signal for an eighth antenna are transmitted through same two resource elements having a fourth frequency in the two OFDM symbols.
