Abstract

A wireless device is enabled to receive a financial account card that is inserted into a card slot of the wireless device. The wireless device reads card data from the financial account card when it is inserted into the slot and programs an RFID (radio frequency identification) tag or a memory included in the wireless device. The wireless device may then be used to provide payment by transmitting the card data via radio frequency to a nearby RFID reader using the RFID tag. The financial account card may also be ejected from the wireless device and swiped by a magnetic card reader.

Claims (59)

1. A method for enabling a wireless device to use card data to complete a transaction, the method comprising:

receiving, by one or more processors, card data associated with a card user;

storing, by the one or more processors, the card data or encrypted data associated with the card data in a memory associated with the wireless device;

receiving, by the one or more processors, first biometric identification data of a first entity;

comparing, by the one or more processors, the received first biometric identification data to user identification data associated with the card user; and

authorizing, based on the comparison and by the one or more processors, transmission of the card data or the encrypted data to complete for the transaction when the user identification data corresponds to the received first biometric data.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more processors, second biometric identification data of a second entity; and

authorizing, by the one or more processors, transmission of the card data to complete the transaction when second user identification data associated with a second card user corresponds to the received second biometric data.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising displaying a portion of the card data on a display of the wireless device responsive to receiving data associated with the transaction.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising:

receiving input providing an indication that the card data was selected; and,

further authorizing use of the card data for the transaction in response to receiving the input indicating that the portion of the card data was selected.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising transmitting the card data from the wireless device.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising writing the card data to an RFID tag included in the wireless device.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising transmitting the card data from the wireless device using the RFID tag.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the first biometric identification data includes at least one of a fingerprint, voice print, or retinal scan.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the card data is received wirelessly.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the card data is received wirelessly using a smart card reader.

11. A wireless device for using card data to complete during a transaction comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory having instructions that when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform the operations of:

receiving card data associated with a card user;

storing the card data or encrypted data associated with the card data in a memory associated with the wireless device;

receiving first biometric identification data of a first entity;

comparing the received first biometric identification data to user identification data associated with the card user; and

authorizing, based on the comparison, transmission of the card data or the encrypted data to complete the transaction when the user identification data corresponds to the received first biometric data.

12. The wireless device of claim 11 wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the operations of:

receiving second biometric identification data of a second entity; and

authorizing transmission of the card data to complete the transaction when second user identification data associated with a second card user corresponds to the received second biometric data.

13. The wireless device of claim 11 wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the operation of displaying a portion of the card data on a display of the device responsive to receiving data associated with the transaction.

14. The wireless device of claim 11 wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the operations of:

receiving input providing an indication that the card data was selected; and,

further authorizing use of the card data for the transaction in response to receiving the input indicating that the portion of the card data was selected.

15. The wireless device of claim 11 wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the operation of transmitting the card data from the device.

16. The wireless device of claim 11 wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the operation of writing the card data to an RFID tag included in the device.

17. The wireless device of claim 16 wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the operation of transmitting the card data from the wireless device using the RFID tag.

18. The wireless device of claim 11 wherein the first biometric identification data includes at least one of a fingerprint, voice print, or retinal scan.

19. The wireless device of claim 11 wherein the card data is received wirelessly.

20. The wireless device of claim 19 further comprising a smart card reader configured to receive the card data wirelessly.

21. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

receiving card data associated with a card user;

storing the card data or encrypted data associated with the card data in a memory associated with a computing device;

receiving first biometric identification data of a first entity;

comparing the received first biometric identification data to user identification data associated with the card user; and

authorizing, based on the comparison, transmission of the card data or the encrypted data to complete a transaction, when the user identification data corresponds to the received first biometric data.

22. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving second biometric identification data of a second entity; and

authorizing transmission of the card data to complete the transaction when second user identification data associated with a second card user corresponds to the received second biometric data.

23. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the operations further comprise displaying a portion of the card data on a display of the computing device responsive to receiving data associated with the transaction.

24. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 23 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving input providing an indication that the card data was selected; and,

further authorizing use of the card data for the transaction in response to receiving the input indicating that the portion of the card data was selected.

25. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the operations further comprise transmitting the card data from the computing device.

26. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the operations further comprise writing the card data to an RFID tag associated with the computing device.

27. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the operations further comprise transmitting the card data from the computing device using the RFID tag.

28. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 , wherein the first biometric identification data includes at least one of a fingerprint, voice print, or retinal scan.

29. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 21 wherein the card data is received wirelessly.

30. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 29 wherein the card data is received wirelessly using a smart card reader.
