Abstract

This invention is a panel mount for non penetrative fastening of a panel (such as a glass pane). The panel mount has clamp jaws defining an elongate slot in which an edge of a panel can be received. A foot is provided for mounting and fastening the clamp jaws to a structure. At least one of the clamp jaws carries at least one threaded fastener that can be actuated by a user, including when the foot is fastened to the structure. The threaded fastener(s) of the at least one clamp jaw, in cooperation with the other clamping jaw, is capable of operatively clamping the panel to hold it in the slot, irrespective of any non-parallel disposition of the plane of the panel to the elongate direction of the slot.

Claims (24)

1. A panel mount comprising a pair of clamp jaws extending from a base to define between said jaws an open sided slot able to loosely receive the edge of a panel, said base being adapted for securing to a surface,

each clamp jaw carrying at least two fasteners, the first being positioned above the second, said fasteners configured and adapted to operatively apply a clamping force to the panel, and

an intermediate member moveably located intermediate of the fasteners and the panel on either side of the slot, said member engaging with both of the first and second fasteners on its respective side of the slot.

2. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein said fasteners can be actuated for movement independently of the clamp jaws along an axis passing through the plane of the slot in order to operatively apply a clamping force to said panel.

3. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein, in use, the engagement between each of said first and second fasteners and the intermediate member is releasable to operatively release the clamping force applied to the panel.

4. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein the intermediate members are permitted at least a limited range of movement independent of and relative to the clamp jaws in order to comply with the position of the panel.

5. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein the intermediate members are permitted at least a limited range of movement independent of and relative to the clamp jaws along an axis passing through the plane of the slot.

6. A panel mount of claim 1 wherein the engagement between said first and second fasteners and the intermediate member permits relative linear movement between each of the fasteners and the intermediate member.

7. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein the open sided slot has an elongate profile when viewed side on.

8. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein said intermediate member is an elongate member.

9. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein said intermediate member is a rigid member.

10. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein said intermediate member is a block or plate.

11. The panel mount of claim 1 wherein said intermediate member is a plastic or metal member.

12. A series of panel mounts to be used in conjunction with one another in order to fix a panel relative to a support surface,

each panel mount comprising a pair of clamp jaws extending upwardly from a base to define a channel between said jaws, the channel having substantially parallel side walls in which the edge of the panel can be loosely received, and the base adapted to be secured to the support surface,

said series of panel mounts being secured to the support surface so that their channel axes are substantially aligned,

and wherein each clamp jaw of each panel mount carries at least two fasteners configured and adapted for movement independently of the clamp jaws to operatively apply a clamping force to the panel irrespective of any non parallel disposition of the plane of the panel in the upward direction relative to the side walls of the channel.

13. The series of panel mounts of claim 12 wherein each clamp jaw carries at least two fasteners, the first fastener positioned above the second, wherein said fasteners can be actuated for movement independently of the clamp jaws along an axis passing through the both sidewalls of the channel in order to operatively apply a clamping force to said panel.

14. The series of panel mounts of claim 12 wherein each of said panel mounts further comprises an intermediate member moveably located intermediate of the fasteners and the panel on either side of the channel.

15. A series of panel mounts to mount a substantially planar panel relative to a support surface,

each panel mount comprising a pair of clamp jaws extending from a base to define a channel between said jaws in which the edge of the panel can be loosely received, and the base adapted to be secured to the support surface,

and wherein each clamp jaw of each panel mount carries at least two fasteners that can be actuated for movement to operatively clamp the edge of the panel in the channel, such that said series of panel mounts, having been arranged in a substantially linear array and secured to the support surface, are able to effect mounting of the substantially planar panel regardless of one or more of said channels being presented in an orientation which is to some degree misaligned with the plane of the panel when positioned for mounting.

16. The series of panel mounts of claim 15 wherein each clamp jaw carries at least two fasteners, the first fastener positioned above the second, wherein said fasteners can be actuated for movement independently of the clamp jaws along an axis passing through the both sidewalls of the channel in order to operatively apply a clamping force to said panel.

17. The series of panel mounts of claim 15 wherein each of said panel mounts further comprises an intermediate member moveably located intermediate of the fasteners and the panel on either side of the channel.
