Abstract

An apparatus for generating a decorrelated signal having a receiving unit for receiving phase information, a transient separator, a transient decorrelator, a second decorrelator and a combining unit, wherein the transient separator is adapted to separate an input signal into a first signal component and into a second signal component such that the first signal component has transient signal portions of the input signal and such that the second signal component has non-transient signal portions of the input signal. The transient decorrelator is adapted to apply the phase information received by the receiving unit to a transient signal component.

Claims (26)

1. An apparatus for encoding an audio signal including a plurality of channels, comprising:

a downmixer for downmixing the plurality of channels to acquire a downmix signal;

a residual signal calculator adapted for calculating a residual signal;

a phase information calculator adapted for calculating information on a phase difference between the downmix and the residual signal to acquire phase information; and

an output generator for outputting the phase information.

2. An apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the apparatus further comprises a phase information quantizer for quantizing the phase information.

3. An apparatus according to claim 1 or 2 ,

wherein the apparatus further comprises a lossless encoder adapted to encode phase information losslessly by applying lossless encoding.

4. An apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the apparatus according to claim 1 is configured to feed the phase information into a further apparatus, said further apparatus being an apparatus for generating a decorrelated signal, wherein said further apparatus comprises a transient decorrelator and a transient separator being adapted for separating an input signal into a first signal component and into a second signal component such that the first signal component comprises transient signal portions of the input signal and such that the second signal component comprises non-transient signal portions of the input signal, said transient separator being adapted to feed the first signal component comprising the transient signal portions into the transient decorrelator;

wherein the phase information calculator is adapted to calculate the phase information such that the transient decorrelator of the further apparatus is capable of decorrelating the first signal component according to a decorrelation method by applying the phase information to the first signal component to obtain a decorrelated signal component.

5. A method for encoding an audio signal including a plurality of channels, comprising:

downmixing the plurality of channels to acquire a downmix signal;

calculating a residual signal;

calculating information on a phase difference between the downmix and the residual signal to acquire phase information; and

outputting the phase information.

6. A method according to claim 5 ,

wherein the method further comprises quantizing the phase information.

7. A method according to claim 5 or 6 ,

wherein the method further comprises encoding phase information losslessly by applying lossless encoding.

8. A method according to claim 5 ,

wherein the method of claim 5 is conducted by an apparatus for encoding the audio signal,

wherein the method further comprises feeding the phase information into a further apparatus, said further apparatus being an apparatus for generating a decorrelated signal, wherein said further apparatus comprises a transient decorrelator and a transient separator being adapted for separating an input signal into a first signal component and into a second signal component such that the first signal component comprises transient signal portions of the input signal and such that the second signal component comprises non-transient signal portions of the input signal, said transient separator being adapted to feed the first signal component comprising the transient signal portions into the transient decorrelator; and

wherein calculating the phase information is conducted such that the transient decorrelator of the further apparatus is capable of decorrelating the first signal component according to a decorrelation method by applying the phase information to the first signal component to obtain a decorrelated signal component.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising a computer program for implementing the method of claim 5 when being executed on a computer or signal processor.
