Abstract

An device, method and program may properly perform gamut conversion of content and be applied to a gamut conversion device. A restoration conversion state confirming unit performs confirmation such as gamut conversion state of image data read out from an optical disc and the existence or not of restoration metadata. An information exchange unit communicates with an output device via a communication unit and performs information exchange such as the existence or not of restoration processing functionality and gamut conversion functionality and the like. A determining unit determines whether or not restoration processing is performed with a playing device based on information obtained by the restoration conversion state confirming unit and the information exchange unit. Similarly, the determining unit determines whether or not to perform gamut conversion processing with the playing device based on information obtained by the restoration conversion state confirming unit and the information exchange unit.

Claims (33)

1. An image processing device comprising:

a processor to:

perform a gamut conversion to an input image so as to generate an output image whose gamut is narrower than that of the input image; and

associate metadata, used by a color mapping process which maps each pixel of the output image so that a gamut of a mapped image after the color mapping process to the output image is wider than that of the output image, with the output image,

wherein the color mapping process includes non-linear operation to a saturation of the output image, and

wherein the non-linear operation involves compressing a first region surrounded by a limited boundary and an uncompressed boundary into a second region surrounded by the uncompressed boundary and a target boundary, in which a third region within the uncompressed boundary is not mapped, and in which the third region is different from the first and second regions.

2. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the non-linear operation includes at least a non-mapping operation and a mapping operation according to the saturation of the output image.

3. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the non-linear operation further includes a clip operation.

4. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the non-linear operation is further defined by a virtual clip boundary.

5. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes data indicating a gamut conversion target range.

6. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes a Cusp table which includes YC (luminance saturation) coordinates of maximum saturation points of representative hues.

7. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes an LU table which represents saturation ratios of a limited (L) boundary and an uncompressed (U) boundary for values of hue.

8. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes data representing how far image data before gamut conversion had spread, or where an image data region not subjected to gamut conversion is.

9. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes data indicating degree of gamut conversion.

10. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the metadata includes data indicating a direction of gamut conversion.

11. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the metadata is associated with the output image by recording the metadata with output image data representing the output image in a same recording medium.

12. The image processing apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the recording medium is a removable recording medium.

13. An image processing device comprising:

a processor to:

perform a gamut conversion to an input image so as to generate an output image whose gamut is narrower than that of the input image; and

associate metadata used by a color mapping process which maps each pixel of the output image so that a gamut of a mapped image after the color mapping process is wider than that of the output image with the output image, wherein the metadata includes an isosbestic point table.

14. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to associate the metadata based on a result of a determination whether a condition indicating whether to associate metadata is satisfied.

15. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to generate the metadata based on a result of a determination whether a metadata generating condition indicating whether to generate metadata is satisfied.

16. An image processing method comprising:

performing a gamut conversion to an input image so as to generate an output image whose gamut is narrower than that of the input image; and

associating metadata, used by a color mapping process which maps each pixel of the output image so that a gamut of a mapped image after the color mapping process to the output image is wider than that of the output image, with the output image

wherein the color mapping process includes non-linear operation to a saturation of the output image, and

wherein the non-linear operation involves compressing a first region surrounded by a limited boundary and an uncompressed boundary into a second region surrounded by the uncompressed boundary and a target boundary, in which a third region within the uncompressed boundary is not mapped, and in which the third region is different from the first and second regions.

17. A non-transitory recording medium on which is recorded a program that causes a computer to execute an image processing method comprising:

performing a gamut conversion to an input image so as to generate an output image whose gamut is narrower than that of the input image; and

associating metadata, used by a color mapping process which maps each pixel of the output image so that a gamut of a mapped image after the color mapping process to the output image is wider than that of the output image, with the output image,

wherein the color mapping process includes non-linear operation to a saturation of the output image, and

wherein the non-linear operation involves compressing a first region surrounded by a limited boundary and an uncompressed boundary into a second region surrounded by the uncompressed boundary and a target boundary, in which a third region within the uncompressed boundary is not mapped, and in which the third region is different from the first and second regions.
