Abstract

A method for visualizing three-dimensional images on a 3D display device, wherein an image to be visualized is supplied as an input image, is characterized in that at least one feature matrix is determined using the input image, the feature matrices defining light/dark information, and in that a display image for reproduction on the 3D display device is produced from the input image using said light/dark information. The invention further relates to a corresponding 3D display device.

Claims (13)

1. A computer-implemented method, utilizing a processor, implemented at least in part in hardware, and configured for the visualization of three-dimensional images, wherein the color values of pixels of the three-dimensional images are modified in order to present additional information and optimize the information for the anatomy of a human eye, on a 3D display device, to which an image to be visualized is outputted by the processor as an input image, said method comprising the steps of:

extracting a feature matrix m(i,j,1) from the input image, wherein said feature matrix describes edges of objects;

for each pixel on the 3D display device, assigning a matrix element of said feature matrix M(i,j,1) comprising light and dark information;

wherein each pixel of the 3D display device comprises a red (R) subpixel, a green (G) subpixel and a blue (B) subpixel, and adapting each pixel of the 3D display device for viewing by the human eye according operations R new , (i,j), G new (i,j) and B new (i,j) comprising,

R new ( i,j ):= R ( i,j )+ M ( i,j, 1)* s,

G new ( i,j ):= G ( i,j )+ M ( i,j, 1)* s,

B new ( i,j ):= B ( i,j )+ M ( i,j, 1)* s , and

wherein,

R(i,j), G(i,j) and B(i,j) define the RGB colors of corresponding pixels of the input image,

R new (i,j), G new (i,j) and B new (i,j) define the new colors of the corresponding pixels of the image to be visualized,

M(i,j,1) is the feature value of the pixel (i,j), which has been assigned in the previous step to the pixel (i,j), and wherein s is a freely configurable scaling factor, and s>0.

2. The computer-implemented method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said scaling factor is variable in response to a viewer based on her viewing preferences.

3. The computer-implemented method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the input image comprises a first and second perspective, said second perspective being generated by displacing said first perspective so that the image appears to project out from the 3D display device at a certain distance.
