Abstract

The invention relates to a safe support device for a syringe, said support comprising a support sheath for the body of a syringe, and safety means which comprise an inner sheath suitable for sliding relative to said support sheath between a waiting retracted position, in which said inner sheath is substantially retracted inside said support sheath, and an active protection position, in which said inner sheath projects from said support sheath. The inner sheath has a free end portion formed by a flexible end-piece. The invention also relates to an assembly comprising such a safe support device and a syringe having a body, a piston and a needle disposed at one end of said body.

Claims (12)

1. A safety syringe assembly support system for use with a syringe, the support system comprising:

a first sheath;

a second sheath, where the first and second sheath are configured to move relative to each other from a start position to a final position;

a pre-stressed spring exerting a biasing force on both the first and second sheath when in the start position; and

at least two retaining tongues on the first sheath engaged with retaining surfaces on the second sheath;

at least two activation tongues on the second sheath configured to cooperate with a periphery of a syringe head such that when the syringe head engages the activation tongues, the activation tongues are radially deflected urging the at least two retaining tongues to disengage from retaining surfaces causing the first and second sheaths to move relative to each other from the start position to the final position,

wherein one of the sheaths comprises a rigid first portion and an end piece that is configured to contact a skin of a patient, where the end piece is flexible, has a tapering frustoconical free end, and has a Shore hardness in a range from 30 Hs to 80 Hs.

The support system of claim 1 further comprising at least two resilient snap catches on the second sheath configured to flex radially in a first direction to allow a collar on the syringe to pass through and to flex in a reverse second direction to wedge the syringe collar in an axially fixed position relative to the second sheath.

The support system of claim 1 wherein each activation tongue terminates in a ramp having a first bearing surface that is configured to engage a second bearing surface on the periphery of the syringe head at an end of stroke of the piston to cause the tongues to flex radially allowing the sheaths to move relative to each other from the start position to the final position.

4. The support system of claim 1 further comprising a lock comprising a shoulder on the second sheath, where the lock is engaged when the shoulder abuts the retaining tongues when the sheaths are in the final position.

The support system of claim 1 wherein the start position is configured such that when a syringe and needle assembly is mounted in the second sheath, the needle will project beyond a distal front of the second sheath, and where the final position is configured such that when a syringe and needle assembly is mounted in the second sheath, the first sheath forms a protective shield all around the needle.

6. The support system of claim 1 further comprising a collar on the second sheath configured to allow a user to wedge index and middle fingers against the collar while using a thumb to operate the syringe positioned in the second sheath.
