Organic light emitting diode display having reaction-blocked common voltage line
An organic light emitting diode (“OLED”) display includes: a substrate divided into a pixel area, and a peripheral area enclosing the pixel area; an OLED in the pixel area and including a first electrode, an organic emission layer and a second electrode; a common voltage line in the peripheral area and transmitting a common voltage to the second electrode; and a reaction blocking part overlapping the common voltage line.
1. An organic light emitting diode display comprising:
a substrate divided into a pixel area, and a peripheral area enclosing the pixel area;
the pixel area comprising:
an organic light emitting diode which is on the substrate and comprises a first electrode, an organic emission layer and a second electrode;
a scan line through which a scan signal is transmitted to control operation of the organic light emitting diode; and
a data line which intersects the scan line and through which a data signal is transmitted to control operation of the organic light emitting diode; and
the peripheral area comprising:
a common voltage line which is on the substrate, in a same layer as the data line in the pixel area, and through which a common voltage is transmitted to the second electrode of the organic light emitting diode which is in the pixel area; and
a reaction blocking part which is disposed on an upper surface of the common voltage line which is in the peripheral area,
wherein
the second electrode of the organic light emitting diode in the pixel area extends to the peripheral area to define a portion of the second electrode in the peripheral area,
in a top plan view, the portion of the second electrode in the peripheral area overlaps the common voltage line in the peripheral area and exposes a side surface of the common voltage line in the peripheral area, and
the reaction blocking part in the peripheral area extends from the upper surface of the common voltage line in the peripheral area and toward the substrate along the side surface of the common voltage line which is exposed by the portion of the second electrode to cover the exposed side surface of the common voltage line in the peripheral area.
2. The organic light emitting diode display of claim 1 , wherein
the pixel area further comprises a protective layer covering the data line, and
the protective layer extends from the data line in the pixel area to be disposed in the peripheral area, and the common voltage line in the peripheral area is exposed by the protective layer in the peripheral area.
3. The organic light emitting diode display of claim 2 , wherein
the reaction blocking part comprises a same material as the first electrode.
4. The organic light emitting diode display of claim 3 , wherein
the reaction blocking part disposed on the upper surface of the common voltage line overlaps a first portion of the upper surface of the common voltage line.
5. The organic light emitting diode display of claim 4 , wherein
the second electrode contacts a second portion of the upper surface of the common voltage line different from the first portion of the upper surface of the common voltage line, and
the upper surface of the common voltage line is exposed between the reaction blocking part on the first portion and the second electrode on the second portion.
6. The organic light emitting diode display of claim 1 , wherein
the common voltage line and the first electrode comprise materials which cause a galvanic reaction in cooperation with an electrolyte.
7. The organic light emitting diode display of claim 6 , wherein
the common voltage line comprises a main wire layer, and assistance wire layers respectively on an upper surface and a lower surface of the main wire layer, and
the main wire layer and the first electrode comprise materials which cause the galvanic reaction in cooperation with the electrolyte.
8. The organic light emitting diode display of claim 7 , wherein
the first electrode comprises a main wire layer, and assistance wire layers respectively on an upper surface and a lower surface of the main wire layer of the first electrode, and
the main wire layer of the first electrode and the main wire layer of the common voltage line cause the galvanic reaction in cooperation with the electrolyte.
9. A method of manufacturing an organic light emitting diode display, comprising:
providing a substrate divided into a pixel area, and a peripheral area enclosing the pixel area;
disposing in the pixel area:
an organic light emitting diode on the substrate, wherein the organic light emitting diode comprises a first electrode, an organic emission layer and a second electrode;
a scan line through which a scan signal is transmitted to control operation of the organic light emitting diode; and
a data line which intersects the scan line and through which a data signal is transmitted to control operation of the organic light emitting diode; and
disposing in the peripheral area:
a common voltage line on the substrate, in a same layer as the data line in the pixel area and through which a common voltage is transmitted to the second electrode of the organic light emitting diode which is in the pixel area; and
a reaction blocking part on an upper surface of the common voltage line which is in the peripheral area,
wherein
the second electrode of the organic light emitting diode in the pixel area extends to the peripheral area to define a portion of the second electrode in the peripheral area,
in a top plan view, the portion of the second electrode in the peripheral area overlaps the common voltage line in the peripheral area and exposes a side surface of the common voltage line in the peripheral area, and
the reaction blocking part in the peripheral area extends from the upper surface of the common voltage line in the peripheral area and toward the substrate along the side surface of the common voltage line which is exposed by the portion of the second electrode to cover the exposed side surface of the common voltage line.
10. The method of claim 9 ,
further disposing in the pixel area:
a protective layer covering the data line,
wherein the protective layer extends from the data line in the pixel area to be disposed in the peripheral area, and the common voltage line in the peripheral area is exposed by the protective layer in the peripheral area.
11. The method of claim 10 , wherein
the common voltage line and the first electrode comprise materials which cause a galvanic reaction in cooperation with an electrolyte, and
the material of the common voltage line which causes the galvanic reaction in cooperation with the electrolyte is not exposed to outside the common voltage line.
